Over the course of this season, the Premier League title race has predominantly been in Arsenal’s favour, with the Gunners sitting top of the table for the majority of the campaign.
However, with Manchester City’s form faltering at the moment, are they currently giving Arsenal the crucial upper hand in the Premier League title race?
The Premier League Title Race: Manchester City’s Current Form
In their last six matches, the Citizens have drawn three and lost one, losing ground and crucial points in the Premier League title race.
Their latest result was a damaging one as they were defeated by Manchester United 2-0 in the Manchester Derby, which was Michael Carrick’s first game in interim charge of the Red Devils.
In addition to this, Manchester City were also defeated by Bodo/Glimt in their most recent UEFA Champions League match.
Although Pep Guardiola made some necessary changes to the side, the team featured the likes of Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
Manchester City’s Injury Struggles
At the time of writing, Manchester City are suffering with several injuries to their side and face the task of challenging for the Premier League title whilst having a depleted squad.
Earlier this season, Arsenal suffered defensive injuries, and in turn, had to rotate whilst retaining their place at the top of the Premier League.
Similarly, Manchester City have some defensive injuries with the likes of Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones currently sidelined.
In addition to this, the likes of Nico Gonzalez and Savinho have also had their fair share of injury problems.
As a result, players like Erling Haaland have had to play frequent minutes, and some players have started matches consecutively when they did not expect to do so.
Defender Max Alleyne is the prime example of this, as the 20-year-old had his loan spell at Watford cut short and was chucked straight into the deep end to compensate for Manchester City’s lack of central defenders.

Arsenal’s Form Makes Them Real Title Contenders
In the Premier League title race, Arsenal currently have a healthy seven-point margin separating them from Manchester City in second.
The Gunners are also experiencing a fairly good form at the moment as they have not lost in their last eight Premier League matches.
With that being said, their two matches have been draws against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Although this is only mildly concerning for Mikel Arteta’s men, they would have hoped to have beaten both of these sides to increase their points tally as much as possible and boost their hopes in the Premier League title race.
Furthermore, both of those draws ended goalless, which is something they will hope to not continue repeating.
Those goalless draws are now a thing of the past as the Gunners responded with resounding cup victories to show that they are still scoring and will continue to keep that buffer on the chasing pack behind them.
Is Arsenal’s Point Buffer Too Much For Manchester City To Handle?
With Manchester City’s current form at the time of writing, this feels like a pivotal moment in the Premier League title race.
In previous years when Manchester City have been successful, they have embarked on a winning run from January onwards, and the opposite appears to be taking place currently.
Although there are still a good number of games to go, the optimism appears to be shifting in Arsenal’s favour, with the Gunners retaining a healthy squad and a healthy gap on the teams chasing them.
After some periods of patience and hope for improvement under Mikel Arteta, many are starting to feel that this will be Arsenal’s year, and their patience may be rewarded fairly soon.
