Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur have started the season with a bang. They have won the first two matches of the season, scoring five goals and conceding none.
After an incredibly contradictory season in 2024/25, during which they won the UEFA Europa League but finished 17th in the Premier League table under Ange Postecoglou, new manager Thomas Frank seemingly has his act together at the club.
Tottenham thrashed Burnley 3-0 in their first league match and then stunned Manchester City 2-0 in their next. What is even more impressive is that those wins came without regular players such as Destiny Udogie, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur Have a Very Balanced Team
Tottenham have a very good centre-back pairing in Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Both played really well to nullify the considerable threat posed by the mighty Manchester City attack. In addition to that, Joao Palhinha and Rodrygo Bentancur add a lot of steel to their midfield.
However, the pleasant surprise for Spurs has been the form of Richarlison. The Brazilian has scored two goals and registered an assist for the North Londoners in two matches this season.
He has also played an active role in Tottenham’s high press, which forced Manchester City to concede a goal last week.
Then there is winger Brennan Johnson, who has scored twice already this season. Mohammed Kudus is another forceful winger who has justified his signing. A striker like Dominic Solanke now finds it really hard to get playing time at Tottenham.
Tottenham’s Discipline
Shunning the gung-ho approach professed by Postecoglou, Spurs have become a lot more disciplined in their playing style.
They defended in numbers against the Cityzens, with the midfield-three of Bentancur, Palhinha and Pape Matar Sarr putting in some really robust performances.
The Spurs midfield is capable of winning balls as well as have a close eye on the opposition midfielders, as they showed against Manchester City. Frank has built a team that is capable of both attacking and defending really well.

Who Do They Face Next?
Frank’s men will take on Bournemouth, West Ham, Brighton, Wolves and Leeds United in their next five matches in the Premier League.
All those matches should be quite straightforward for them. They will give the North London side a great opportunity to collect a lot of precious points at the beginning of the season.
Frank will want the momentum to be with him by the time the UEFA Champions League football starts for his team.
Performing well in Europe’s premier club competition will not be easy, but Tottenham will want to put last season’s disappointment behind them in the domestic league at least. It remains to be seen whether they are able to do it.
As of now, Tottenham remain below the level of the clubs who should be considered genuine contenders to lift the Premier League title.
Winning the league title might be a distant dream for them at the moment, but it is definitely not completely out of their reach. The manager and the players, however, cannot afford to be complacent.
