West Ham United sack manager Slaven Bilić

The Hammers signed Slaven Bilić as a manager on the 9th of June 2015, and sacked him on November 6th, 2017. A 4-1 defeat to Liverpool was the final straw. There are already rumors that the club will pursue David Moyes as their next manager.

Bilić had a flying start to his career at West Ham, beating Arsenal 0-2 away from home in the Premier League. That early form would not continue, and he now finds himself looking for a new club.

West Ham sack Bilić

Bilić is a very experienced manager, managing for 14 years before signing for West Ham,  and has had playing experience for the Irons. It is no surprise that Bilić has been sacked; he was on the verge of being sacked for a while. In his first season at the club, he had come 7th with West Ham racking up a total of 62 points with having a positive goal difference of 14. It has gone downhill from there coming 11th in the following season racking up a mere 45 points with a negative goal difference of -17.

This year the club has just nine points in 11 fixtures and sit in the relegation zone.

West Ham said the club believed a change was necessary “to move forward positively and in line with their ambition”.

Transfer Window

Bilić had spent £44 million this summer for Chicharito, Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart (loan), Marko Arnautovic and Sead Haskabanovic. They managed to sign Chicharito for £16 million which is a bargain price for such an experienced player. Arnautovic was a signed for a club record of £25 million; a bargain in today’s transfer window. Zabaleta was signed for free and is very experienced having made 230 appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League. Hart is an excellent keeper with incredible reflexes. The England International is only on loan from Manchester City. Haskabanovic was signed for £3 million and is a great youth player to have in the squad. He already has 58 appearances at the age of 18.

However, all of these signings could not save the Croatian manager as he has been sacked in his 3rd season at West Ham. Although looking at his win percentage at the club it is no shock that he has been sacked; a terrifying 38% win percentage. Due to Bilić’ poor form, the West Ham board are unhappy; this started in the middle of the 16/17 season when West Ham’s form took a decline. He has had a rise and fall in the short span of 3 years.
