West Ham’s form is deplorable at the moment. The Hammers lost 1-2 to Nottingham Forest at home on Tuesday, January 6, and are now languishing in 18th position in the Premier League table with 14 points from 21 matches.
West Ham’s form has seen them lose four of their last five league matches. Nuno Espirito Santo has a winning ratio of less than 20%, which is pretty bad by any standard.
West Ham’s Form Has Deteriorated Since David Moyes Left
Moyes had a five-year-long stint at West Ham with a win ratio of almost 45%. He also managed to win the UEFA Conference League in 2023, West Ham’s first European trophy in many years. However, since Moyes stepped down in 2024, West Ham’s form has gone from bad to worse.
West Ham United appointed Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter before hiring Santo, but they left the club with a winning ratio of 31% and 24%, respectively. West Ham finished 9th and 14th in the last two Premier League seasons, thereby not qualifying for European football.
At the moment, West Ham are in the relegation zone, which is very bad for a club of their stature. Santo, who had a very good stint with Nottingham Forest prior to coming to West Ham, has been struggling at his new club badly.
It is a bit surprising, given that the Hammers have quality players like James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen in their line-up. However, their defence has suffered recently with players like Vladimir Coufal, Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma having moved out of the club during the past two years or so. Another talented midfielder, Said Benrahma, also recently left the club.
The replacements have not lived up to expectations so far, which means that West Ham’s form continues to be really deplorable. In the London Stadium, they have one of the best grounds in England, but their performance on the pitch leaves a lot to be desired.

West Ham Will Play Queens Park Rangers Next
West Ham will play QPR in the third round of the FA Cup in their next match on January 11. Thereafter, they will play Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Chelsea in their next three matches. Avoiding defeat in any of those three matches is going to be an uphill task for the Hammers, but is necessary to improve the West Ham United form.
West Ham United cannot even afford to change their manager anytime soon. They have parted ways with Lopetegui and Potter in the recent past, and Nuno Espirito Santo is a proven manager. Hence, the problem is probably not with the man at the helm at the moment.
Getting relegated will be catastrophic for a club with such history. The disturbing fact is that Nottingham Forest, the team just above West Ham in the Premier League table, are ahead of them by seven points, which is a significant difference with less than half a season to go. Unless the West Ham’s form improves soon, it seems to be very, very difficult for them to stay in the top division of English football.
