Tottenham Hotspur Planning To Hijack Chelsea Move For ‘Exceptional’ Midfielder Signing

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a pretty impressive start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, having been able to win both games by scoring five goals and not conceding even once.

Thomas Frank has had a great start to his journey as the Lilywhites’ gaffer, but he still needs the necessary reinforcements in his squad to help them compete strongly across multiple competitions.

Amid their hunt for a new attacking midfielder signing, it seems like the North London side have turned their attentions towards a possible cheeky move for RB Leipzig man Xavi Simons.

Tottenham Hijack Xavi Simons From Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur have not been able to sign a new midfielder yet and are short in quality options in the attacking midfield position after seeing midfielder James Maddison ruled out for the majority of the 2025/26 season with an injury he sustained in pre-season.

Spurs are reportedly attempting to hijack Xavi Simons from Chelsea and convince the Dutchman to join them instead. This comes after it was claimed that Xavi has been allowed to take time away from the RB Leipzig first-team squad because of contract talks, and he is no longer in Leipzig either.

It’s also being claimed that Simons has already flown into London to accelerate on transfer talks to join a top Premier League side. Simons is reportedly going to cost around £60 million for whoever wants to sign him, with the Bundesliga side not really keen on selling him for any cheap amount.

However, it’s also being stated that Simons now has an agreement in place with Chelsea, who are still actively in a firm position to sign him.

Spurs are attempting to jump ahead of their London rivals in the transfer saga and convince Simons to join them instead, with the 2025 summer transfer window set to close on 1st September.

Can Xavi Simons Improve Tottenham Hotspur’s Attack?

Xavi Simons is the product of the famous La Masia youth academy at Barcelona and has been able to prove his quality over the last few years at RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old is a pretty versatile asset, as he can play in the left wing or attacking midfield roles with ease, which is probably why multiple are aiming to sign him.

Simons enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in just 25 games for RB Leipzig.

He was able to boast some really impressive numbers in the Bundesliga, averaging 0.42 non-penalty goals, 4.52 shot-creating actions, 5.86 progressive passes and 3.56 progressive carries per 90 minutes in the division.

In comparison, Dejan Kulusevski was able to average 0.26 non-penalty goals, 4.67 progressive passes and 4.54 progressive carries per game in the 2024/25 Premier League, which shows that Simons has all the qualities to thrive in the division.

Simons boasts an impressive ability to dribble past players and is really accurate and creative with his passes, which helped him gain all the assists.

Simons, who was hailed as “exceptional” in 2024, can add that extra bit of unpredictability in the Tottenham Hotspur attack by joining them and being a menacing No.10 for the Lilywhites.

His ability to score goals regularly, efficient finishing skills and creative brilliance can help add a lot more spark to Spurs’ frontline, if they are able to beat Chelsea to his signing.
