Manchester United vs Aston Villa Preview, Team News, Head To Head and Prediction

Manchester United still feeling the pain of their Europa final loss, have endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign in years, breaking and setting negative records along the way, and their loss to Tottenham on Wednesday compounded their misery as it meant there will be no European football at the theatre of dreams for the second time in 35 years.

This season, the players have not performed up to expectations.

The Red Devils have been winless in their last eight league games with two draws and six losses.

Their 16th position in the league with 39 points in 37 games is the worst since the 1973-1974 relegation campaign.

And with the tension surrounding the club, a win against Champions League chasers would be welcomed.

Aston Villa, one of five teams vying for three Champions League spots were able to get a victory over Tottenham in their last premier league game and will field a team aimed at exploiting Manchester United’s vulnerabilities.

The two teams meet again since October, after they both played out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

Heading into the game, Aston Villa has been in a positive vein of form, with five wins and one defeat in their last six games.

The Lions are sixth on the premier league table, tied on the same points with Chelsea and Newcastle, only behind both teams on goal difference.

Remarkably, only on one occasion have Aston Villa come out on top in their last 26 league final day fixtures, and United will be hoping their final season rot continues against them.

Manchester United Team News

United head into the game without defender Lisandro Martinez, who has missed a huge part of the season, and fellow centre-back Matthijs de Ligt who missed the last four games after picking up a knee injury is also a doubt for the game.

Defenders Leny Yoro, Johnny Evans and Diogo Dalot, as well as Striker Joshua Zirkzee, all recovered from knocks to feature in the Europa League final and are all in contention to start the game.

Alejandro Garnacho whose future is in doubt following comments he made about getting “20 minutes in the final” is also in contention to start, but it’s unclear if his long-term football will be played at Old Trafford.

The Argentine has been on many occasions linked with a move to premier league rivals Chelsea.

With the outcome of other premier league games tomorrow, Manchester United could finish the season in 14th position with a win over Aston Villa, but for the status of the club, this is a disastrous season.

Aston Villa, with a win tomorrow, secures a Champions League place, which means they are the more motivated club coming into tomorrow’s game.

Villa, who have won four of their last five away games without conceding will fancy their chances against Man Utd tomorrow and might see out a victory
