A loss away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup has added to West Ham’s misery, and their fans’ discontent with the team’s start to the season remains.
However, an incident took place after the game, which showed the levels of discontent at the club. But what was it and who was involved?
Jarrod Bowen Confronts West Ham Fans
Following the conclusion of the 3-2 defeat at Molineux, in which West Ham bowed out of the Carabao Cup, Jarrod Bowen confronts West Ham fans after they made their frustrations known from the stands.
Although no physical altercations took place, Bowen appeared to speak to the fans with some verbal malice.
His teammates Tomas Soucek and Nayef Aguerd were able to stop a potential altercation. However, the discontent was clear on Bowen’s face.
Since the incident, Jarrod Bowen has apologised on social media. However, that will matter little in comparison to the wider problems at West Ham United.
Results
In the two Premier League fixtures so far, West Ham United have conceded eight goals, losing away to Sunderland and at home against Chelsea, respectively.
In response, the Hammers have netted once, as Lucas Paqueta unleashed a wonderful effort which turned out to be a consolation goal against Chelsea.
During the loss against Sunderland, West Ham had a similar XG to their counterparts.
However, they were undone in a second-half three-goal flurry from Sunderland, with multiple headers coming from the likes of Dan Ballard, ensuring that West Ham’s opening fixture was filled with disappointment.
In the following match, they conceded five goals at home against Chelsea. Their lead lasted roughly ten minutes, and in the first half, Chelsea appeared to outplay them with ease as they strolled into a 3-1 lead, before ultimately rounding off the victory in the second half.

The Problems
The consensus with regards to West Ham’s issues, many fans believe, relates to the ownership and recruitment.
Many fans believe that not only are the players on the pitch not up to standard, but some recent managerial appointments have been unsatisfactory.
Although he has only played two Premier League matches with West Ham, Mads Hermansen’s performances in goal have attracted some unwanted attention. The Dane performed well for Leicester last season.
However, many fans believe he should have saved some of the goals that have been conceded by the Hammers so far, with many dissatisfied by his performances.
Although Hermansen may take some of the blame, there has also been discontent with English centre-back Max Kilman. The sale of Kilman to West Ham was for a sizeable fee.
Therefore, he should perform at top quality in most matches. However, fans have noted some lapses in concentration from the player, fuelling anger towards the Englishman.
Following the sacking of David Moyes, his successor was appointed in the form of Julien Lopetegui.
Fans noted a loss of structure and basic principles under his guidance, leading many to rue the departure of Moyes.
Other notable appointments that many West Ham fans deem unsatisfactory include midfielder Guido Rodriguez, Englishman James Ward-Prowse and even Tomas Soucek has attracted criticism from some of the fans, despite meaningful contributions to the club over the years.
Conclusion
Along with the likes of Wolves, West Ham appear to be in danger this season. For the past few seasons, the newly promoted sides have returned straight to the Championship.
However, this appears to be by no means guaranteed this time out.
Should Potter depart the club, the owners will need to choose his successor carefully, and recruit carefully in January to avoid a damaging relegation for the team.
