Manchester City vs Liverpool: Jeremy Doku Brilliance Helps the Cityzens to an Easy 3-0 Win

The Manchester City vs Liverpool Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, November 9, ended in a 3-0 win for the hosts.

Manchester City vs Liverpool was a very one-sided match, and the scoreline would have looked even more humiliating for the Reds had Erling Haaland not missed a penalty in the first half.

Haaland later made amends by scoring Manchester City’s first goal. Jeremy Doku and Nico Gonzalez also scored for the Cityzens to complete the rout. Pep Guardiola’s men now have 22 points from 11 matches, which means that they are four points adrift of table-toppers Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Liverpool suffered their fifth defeat in their last six matches in the league and are now eighth in the Premier League table with 18 points in 11 matches.

It was Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game as manager, and he could not have asked for a better performance from his team.

Manchester City vs Liverpool: An Extremely One-Sided Match

The Cityzens won the Manchester City vs Liverpool match at a canter. Normally, matches between two genuine title challengers are not this one-sided. However, at no point in time did Liverpool look like winning the match. The Reds had seven attempts at goal, while Manchester City had 17.

Manchester City made repeated attacks through the left flank, as Jeremy Doku tormented Conor Bradley with his speedy runs. Doku managed to cut in through the inside-left channel into the Liverpool penalty box to earn the hosts a penalty.

Haaland missed it, but then Matheus Nunes, Manchester City’s right-back, later sent in a perfect cross, which the Norwegian converted beautifully by heading the ball into the corner of the net. It was Haaland’s 19th goal of the season, and his scoring a goal in a match is fast becoming an inevitability.

The Jeremy Doku goal was then scored in the second half with a neatly placed shot, which was quite deserving. The Belgian winger came up with his best performance of the season and gave a torrid time to the Liverpool defence. Jeremy Doku’s brilliance was a standout factor in the match.

Liverpool never looked like dominating, but the Cityzens’ ability to create brisk moves with quick passes split open their defence repeatedly. Manchester City were fast in their counter-attacks and played one-touch passes at times to build up brisk moves.

Florian Wirtz was once again almost non-existent and now has no goal and three assists to show for in 16 matches so far this season. Alexander Isak is no regular, and to make matters worse, Liverpool’s midfield looks decidedly second-best against quality opposition.

Hence, Arne Slot is not finding his job easy at this point in time. His team has now lost seven of its last 10 matches across all competitions, and even the recent 1-0 home win against the mighty Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League seems to be an aberration now.

Is Slot’s Job Immune to Any Scrutiny This Season?

Slot became the darling of Liverpool supporters by winning the Premier League title in his debut season as the Reds’ manager. However, his team’s performance has been disappointing at best this season. Losing so many matches is simply not acceptable as the English champions.

The Dutch manager is now feeling the heat and more importantly, his team is playing very average football. At this rate, they are not even going to finish inside the top four of the Premier League table, let alone win the Premier League title.

Slot will have to find ways to change the way his team plays, because the current setup is not working at all.
