The title battles around Europe are taking shape, as the domestic league season is nearing an end, and we slowly enter the summer months ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The title race in countries like Germany and the Netherlands are already settled, with the Bundesliga being won by the dominant Bayern Munich and the Eredivisie being dominantly won by PSV Eindhoven.
However, beyond those two countries, there are also tight title battles around Europe, ones that could go down to the wire, but also ones that could be settled very soon.
With a few matchdays left all around Europe, let’s have a look at how the title battles around Europe are unfolding, with not long left in the domestic season
Title Battles Around Europe: English Premier League
Probably the tightest title race in Europe, two English heavyweights are locked into a gargantuan battle for the Premier League title.
Arsenal and Manchester City are the two teams in contention, with the student Mikel Arteta and the master Pep Guardiola going hammer and tong to be crowned as Premier League champions at the end of the 2025/26 season.
After the Gunners surrendered a nine-point lead at the top, the Cityzens defeated the Gunners to pull themselves back into the battle for the Premier League.
However, with Manchester City in FA Cup action, Arsenal took advantage by getting a big win over Newcastle United to propel them back to the top of the table.
With that being said, Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand over the Gunners and would leapfrog them in the title race if they do win that fixture.
Goal difference may become vital in this title race, as Arsenal and Manchester City look to take this battle until the very end and into a dramatic final day.
Title Battles Around Europe: Italian Serie A
This is one of the battles which could be settled this weekend, as Inter Milan currently hold a 10-point lead at the top of the Serie A over reigning champions Napoli.
The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League finalists look to return the Scudetto back to Milan, after surrendering it to Napoli last season by a single point.
Cristian Chivu’s side have been free-flowing in attack and tight defensively, as they have taken the Serie A by storm and have a healthy cushion at the top of the table.
Their closest challengers, Napoli, need to win this weekend over Como and hope that Inter lose to Parma to keep the Serie A title race alive for another matchday.
However, this title battle seems very much dead and buried, as Inter look to claim yet another Scudetto and return to being the top side in Italy.
Title Battles Around Europe: French Ligue 1
Another title race that looks to be a formality is the one in Ligue 1, as the dominant force, Paris Saint-Germain, hold a six-point lead over RC Lens.
The two sides have battled hard for top spot all season long, but PSG currently hold the cards with four matchdays left in Ligue 1.
Last season’s UEFA Champions League winners have won 11 of the last 13 Ligue 1 titles, as the Parisians have taken the French league by storm since their takeover almost 15 years ago.
In recent seasons, it has only been RC Lens that has really taken the battle to PSG, having taken the fight to them in 2022/23 and also done so this season.
With a gap of six points with four games left for both sides, it looks to be PSG’s for the taking, with recent form taken into account, but RC Lens will fight until the end to deny them the chance of lifting the trophy once more.

Title Battles Around Europe: Spanish La Liga
Another battle in Europe that looks to be done and dusted is the one in La Liga, as Barcelona look to take the title for the third time in four seasons.
Hansi Flick’s side are a well-drilled machine in the domestic league, but lack that final touch when it comes to the UEFA Champions League.
An 11-point lead over Real Madrid with five games to go, Barca are in a fantastic spot to continue their La Liga dominance and are likely to plunge Los Blancos into sacking Alvaro Arbeloa.
The only annoying factor for Barcelona will be that they failed to make it further in Europe, as they were defeated in the quarter-finals by fellow Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Barca will likely win the La Liga this season, but with a new manager likely at Real Madrid next season, can Hansi Flick continue his Spanish top-flight masterclass?
Title Battles Around Europe: Other Leagues
In other leagues, Liga Portugal sees FC Porto lead the way at the top by seven points with three games to go, and they can wrap up the title this weekend.
The Scottish Premiership has Hearts at the top of the Championship Group with only a handful of games left. The Jam Tarts hold a three-point lead at the top of the table over Celtic and a four-point lead over Rangers.
The Polish Ekstraklasa has probably one of the tightest title races, with Lech Poznan leading the way at the top and holding a three-point lead over second-place Gornik Zabrze.
With four games to go, seven teams are still mathematically in the fight for the title, which makes this title race an exciting one to keep an eye on.
