After pushing to sign Andy Robertson as a free agent, the Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur transfer continues the club’s rebuild following a tough 2025/26 season.
In a move that has many fans confused, Senesi has traded the South Coast and European football with Bournemouth and signed for Tottenham in their rebuild project under Roberto de Zerbi.
After four seasons with the Cherries, he let his contract expire at the end of the 2025/26 season, even though the club tried three times to extend his stay.
With his fitness being a big factor that makes him an attractive signing, the Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur transfer gives manager De Zerbi a reliable central defender.
Along with his great fitness, his disciplinary record is also something that makes him a key signing for Spurs, with the North London club having problems with their defenders seeing red throughout the previous campaign.
On paper, this signing is an impressive one, with Tottenham Hotspur beating many La Liga and Serie A sides to the signature of the Argentine defender.
Marcos Senesi To Tottenham Hotspur: A Ball-Playing Central Defender
In comparison to the other two main central defenders for Tottenham, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Senesi is not the goal-scoring type, rather the one who creates chances for his teammates.
With Romero and Van de Ven netting four goals each in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season, the ex-AFC Bournemouth defender didn’t score any goals but provided five assists, the most of any central defender in the English top-flight.
Tottenham Hotspur would not only be signing a solid defender, but one who creates from deep and that is evident from 24 chances created over the season just gone, which is seven more than the total of Romero and Van de Ven combined.
His passing percentage of 77.7% is not great, with both of Spurs’ central defenders trumping him in that regard; however, the sheer amount of passes the Argentine completed is extraordinary.
As a defender who looks to progress his team forward, the passing of the 29-year-old makes the Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur transfer an interesting one.
Senesi will definitely be utilised for his passing, whilst the other central defender, either Van de Ven or Romero, if they stay at the club, will use their aerial ability to score from set-pieces when they arise.

Marcos Senesi To Tottenham Hotspur: Defensive Attributes
This is where Senesi blows the two main Tottenham Hotspur central defenders out of the water, as over the last season, the Argentine has produced incredible defensive numbers.
With over 400 defensive contributions over the 2025/26 season, Senesi has proven to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League, helping his Bournemouth side to remain unbeaten in the league since the start of January.
Along with the Cherries’ long-standing unbeaten run, Andoni Iraola’s side produced 10 clean sheets over the season with Senesi at the heart of that defence.
With Spurs’ tricky Premier League season, Micky van de Ven could only manage eight clean sheets over the league season, another factor which makes the Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur signing important for the North London side.
In terms of clearances, Senesi is also well clear of the two aforementioned defenders, but it is actually Kevin Danso who is the closest challenger to the Argentine.
The Austrian central defender managed 135 clearances over his 24 matches that he played in the Premier League for Tottenham; however, Senesi still managed nearly double that with 253 and a whopping percentage of 97.8%.
With Spurs heading in for yet another rebuild, the Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur transfer could become a crucial bit of business for the North London side to steer them back closer to the top once more.
