Nottingham Forest’s priority number one was to get the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension over the line, especially after Elliot Anderson’s departure to Manchester City during this summer transfer window. The Ivorian midfielder formed a strong midfield double-pivot with the now Cityzens midfielder and will now definitely play a key role for the Reds in the upcoming 2026/27 season.

With the addition of Xaver Schlager to the engine room, the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension will allow the Reds to partner those two together in the midfield. The former RB Leipzig midfielder will need to get up to speed with the expectations of the Premier League quickly, and forming a strong bond with Sangare will be key in that.

Along with new ideas, new formations and a brand new season, new Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner will see Sangare as a key player for the Reds going forward and a key component in keeping the defence protected at all times.

Ibrahim Sangare Contract Extension: Renewal Key In The Midfield

The Ivorian midfielder joined Nottingham Forest in September 2023 and is reaching his third year as a Forest player. Plying his trade in the Netherlands and France before his move to England three years ago, Sangare played at the highest level, with frequent appearances in the UEFA Champions League for PSV Eindhoven.

His first two seasons at the City Ground were mixed with inconsistencies, not being selected and constant changes, as the midfielder had a tough time. However, last season, he turned a corner, was a key player in the midfield alongside the now-departed Elliot Anderson and played consistent football.

For only the third time in his career, Sangare managed to play over 40 games, as the 28-year-old played 43 times for the Reds in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting three.

His contributions were slightly overshadowed by the brilliance of Anderson, but as a deep-lying midfielder, his defensive contributions and his passing ability made him one of the better-performing Forest players last season. The Reds had a turbulent season last term, avoiding relegation after being dragged into the fight following constant managerial changes.

Ahead of this season, Vitor Pereira was relieved of his managerial duties, even though he guided Forest to safety and a UEFA Europa League semi-final, and was replaced by Oliver Glasner, who just left his post as the Crystal Palace manager. The key now for the new Reds boss is to reconstruct the midfield and fill the void left by the ever-talented Anderson, but the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension is a positive move for the Nottingham Forest engine room.

Ibrahim Sangare Contract Extension: Ivorian Delighted To Stay At The City Ground

The 28-year-old was a key man last season, and after Anderson’s departure, it was always key to sort the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension and to tie the Ivory Coast international down to a long-term contract at the City Ground.

Upon the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension, the 28-year-old was over the moon to commit his future to the Reds:

“I’m delighted to sign the new contract. It’s a good moment too for me to thank the fans. Last season wasn’t always easy, but they were always with us and I have always felt their support.

“It’s been three years here and it has become a family for me in that time. I feel good, I have learned a lot, and worked hard to get to this point. I’m really looking forward to working with the new coach and for the season to start.”

With Nicolas Dominguez, Ryan Yates, Xaver Schlager and Ibrahim Sangare all as options in the Forest engine room, the Reds look set for a good season in the Premier League, and the Ibrahim Sangare contract extension is one piece of the puzzle solved following the departure of Elliot Anderson.
