The Julian Alvarez signing has become the subject of much speculation of late. Alvarez is currently an Atletico Madrid player, but there have been a lot of reports linking him to Barcelona. After Robert Lewandowski’s departure following an ordinary 2025/26 season, there is a lot of search for the next Barcelona striker.
Alvarez is reported to be the top striker on Barcelona’s radar. However, Atletico Madrid do not want to let him go, which means that the Julian Alvarez signing has become the topic of discussion of late.
Julian Alvarez Signing: The Argentine Has Seen A Lot Of Success In The Last Four Seasons
Alvarez is only 26 and has already won the World Cup and two Premier League titles. He also won the UEFA Champions League in the 2022/23 season with Manchester City and finished runner-up at the World Cup this year; that is a lot of success for a 26-year-old. Alvarez has scored a total of 85 goals in 209 matches for Manchester City and Atletico Madrid so far, and he is known for playing behind the striker as well as playing as the main goal threat.
Barcelona have a very good midfield consisting of players like Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie De Jong and Fermin Lopez and also have quality wingers like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. However, in the absence of Lewandowski’s departure, who scored heaps of goals for the Catalans during the past few seasons and also in the event of the exit of Ferran Torres, who might leave for Paris Saint-Germain, they will desperately need a striker.
There are hardly any better available candidates than Julian Alvarez to become the next Barcelona striker. Alvarez has spent two seasons in La Liga already and is quite accustomed to the style of play in Spanish football. In addition to that, Alvarez has played with Manchester City, who play a possession-based style with short passes like Barcelona do. Hence, he could be a good fit at Barcelona with his ability to link with the midfielders and wingers.

Julian Alvarez Signing: The Signing That Won’t Be Easy
Alvarez’s contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer of 2030. However, what is important in this regard is that his contract has a whopping €500 million release clause, which makes it very difficult for any club to sign him until the contract expires.
Atletico might be a little flexible in dealing with the release clause, but are likely to put the price tag for Alvarez at well over €100 million, which might prove to be a bit too much for Barcelona, who have already spent €80 million on getting Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
However, if Ferran Torres leaves, then Barca will have to sign a striker. Alvarez may be too much of an ask with the price tag, and Atletico Madrid is unlikely to budge as they would not want to improve a direct La Liga rival.
However, as of now, the Catalans have not been able to zero in on any such target. Moreover, if the new Barcelona striker does not have enough quality, then it will be difficult for the La Liga champions to defend their title, and thus, the Julian Alvarez signing remains very important to them.
