The Cody Gakpo transfer from Liverpool is still not certain, as Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly chasing him.
Gakpo scored in Liverpool’s latest club friendly against Como on Sunday, August 16. As of now, the Cody Gakpo transfer is the latest trouble for the Reds.
Gakpo is probably going to make a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who are having a very eventful transfer window. If the Cody Gakpo transfer to Tottenham happens, it will be a blow to Liverpool.
Cody Gakpo Transfer: How Will it Impact Liverpool?
Gakpo was signed by Liverpool in the January transfer window in 2023. Since then, Gakpo has played in 180 matches for the Reds and has scored 50 goals. He has also won the Premier League title with Liverpool once.
Prior to coming to Liverpool, Gakpo had played for a few seasons for PSV Eindhoven and had scored 55 goals in 159 matches for the Dutch club. His goal-scoring rate for both PSV Eindhoven and Liverpool shows that he is more of a left-winger than a No. 9, though he has played as a No.9 as well.
At Liverpool, he has had two successive seasons, during each of which he scored in excess of 15 goals. However, his return of only nine goals in 52 matches last season has spoiled his record at the club somehow. Still, the fact that he managed to play in 52 matches is a testimony to his fitness levels.
Gakpo is only 27 now, and hence, the Cody Gakpo transfer to Tottenham might benefit the club a great deal should it take place.
However, it might harm Liverpool in the same way, as it would compel the Reds to make a signing who can play on the left flank.
Rio Ngumoha is already there to play on the left, but he might have to play on the right in the absence of Mohamed Salah. If Gakpo leaves the club, then the Reds must sign a left-winger to compensate for him.
If Bradley Barcola comes to Liverpool, their concerns will be alleviated, though. However, if that does not happen, either Hugo Ekitike or Florian Wirtz will have to play on the left flank for Liverpool in the 2026/27 season.
As of now, it seems that Liverpool will be able to get a reinforcement in case they have to part with Gakpo.

Gakpo’s Move Will Strengthen Tottenham Undoubtedly
Tottenham are having a great transfer window and have already roped in players like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul Van Hecke. Gakpo’s signing will make them stronger in their attack as well.
However, as of now, the Cody Gakpo transfer has not been finalised yet. A lot of Liverpool supporters will hope that he will stay for another season. However, some others will hope that the Reds will get Barcola, who should prove to be a better replacement for the Dutchman.
Irrespective of whether the Cody Gakpo transfer takes place or not, he will remain an important player this season. The Dutchman should continue to enjoy his prime as a footballer in England for the next few seasons as well.
