La Liga 2026/27 season is already underway, and one of the newly promoted La Liga teams, Racing de Santander, have already announced itself in their first game with a draw against Villarreal, led by Inigo Perez.
In this article, we will evaluate the survival chances of the two other promoted La Liga teams, Deportivo de A Coruña and Màlaga Club de Futbol.
Promoted La Liga Team: Deportivo de A Coruña
Real Club Deportivo de A Coruña are based in the Spanish city of A Coruña in the northwestern community of Galicia.
Once the champions of La Liga in 1999/00 and Champions League semi-finalists of the 2003/04 season are now a club in a constant fight for promotion or relegation.
The cause of their downfall is financial mismanagement that led the club into formal insolvency proceedings in 2013. Their last appearance in the Spanish first division was in the 2017/18 season.
Deportivo, like Racing Santander, were also downgraded to the third division after their initial relegation from LaLiga and spent four years in Primera Federación.
Analysis of Their 2025/26 Season
Last season they finished second in La Liga HyperMotion with 77 points. Deportivo, under manager Antonio Hidalgo, are a side that focuses on defensive discipline and wing play.
In the 2025/26 season, the promoted La Liga team suffered the fewest defeats in the division and conceded only 44 goals, the fourth-lowest among the 22 participating teams.
Their strength last season, astonishingly, was their away record. They collected more points on the road in the previous season (39) compared to 38 at home.
Deportivo’s Chances for Next Season
Deportivo are a side that has what it takes to withstand the challenges of La Liga and can avoid relegation. They are a strong defensive side who prefer to defend rather than take the game to the opposition.
The promoted La Liga team have done good business in the current summer transfer window as well. Deportivo have brought in Leo Roman, Angelino and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the side, along with retaining key players from last season such as Yeremay Hernandez and Mario Soriano.
Promoted La Liga Team: Málaga Club de Fútbol
Málaga Club de Fútbol hail from the city of Malaga, located in the autonomous community of Andalusia. They were relegated from LaLiga at the end of the 2017/18 season.
Like the other two newly promoted La Liga teams, financial turmoil and off-pitch drama have also marked Malaga’s recent history.
After their relegation from the second division in 2023, Malaga tasted third-division football for one season in 2023/24, but they immediately bounced back. In the 2024/25 season, they finished 16th in the table and avoided another relegation.
Analysis of Their 2025/26 Season
Last season, they finished fourth in the table and secured promotion via the playoffs.
At the start of last season, Malaga were not doing really well. They only had 15 points after 14 matches and were just above the relegation spots. Then they sacked their manager Sergio Pellicer and appointed Juan Francisco Funes.
The new manager enlivened the squad, and Malaga started winning games. Under Funes, they collected 58 points in 28 games, which was the best record for any manager in the division last season.
The team’s playing style under Funes is based on tactical discipline and a flexible defensive setup, often deployed in a mid-to-low block.

Malaga’s Chances for Next Season
Malaga’s survival chances for the next La Liga season look grim. The major reason for this is their lack of transfer activity in the summer. The promoted La Liga team has only made one signing so far on a permanent transfer, Facundo Calero from Espanyol.
The positives for the Andalusian side heading into the next season are their tactical flexibility and defensive solidity. They change their playing style as per the opponent. They can go long or take control of the game, depending on the situation.
Best Home Support in La Liga Hypermotion
Malaga have an excellent home record as well. The promoted La Liga team lost only two home games last season.
Moreover, their home venue, Estadio La Rosaleda, had the highest average attendance across the second division in the 2025/26 season.
The home support will certainly give the players confidence to play for the badge and fight against the big La Liga teams like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the upcoming La Liga season.
