Florian Wirtz Germany Form: What Does He Do Differently for the National Team?
October 1, 2026, xsltx, Soccer: UEFA Nations League, Germany vs. Serbia; Florian Wirtz wore the captain s armband for the German national team in the second half

Florian Wirtz’s performance for Germany continues to be better than his form for his club, Liverpool. Wirtz scored one of Germany’s two goals in their 2-0 win against Serbia, which means that he now has 12 goals in 47 matches for his country.

Florian Wirtz Germany form thus is better than that of him for Liverpool. Wirtz has scored eight goals in 55 matches for the Reds so far, which is definitely not up to the mark. Is there any reason why the Florian Wirtz Germany form is better than that for his club in Premier League and Champions League?

Florian Wirtz Germany performance: What does He do Differently for His Country?

The Florian Wirtz Germany form is enhanced by the fact that he gets to spend more time in the central areas of the final third. As most of the international teams are not as fast in their movement of the ball as the club sides in Premier League football, they prefer to stay deep and defend against bigger teams like Germany.

This means that Wirtz is not under compulsion to fall back as often as he has to do for Liverpool. That also means that he is able to combine with the wingers and centre-forwards of the German team while being at a central attacking position. It was evident from the way he gelled with Serge Gnabry and Nick Woltemade in the match against Serbia.

It also gives him the opportunity to play one-twos with the forwards of his team to break into the opposition penalty box. That Florian Wirtz Germany playing style is not replicated while playing for Liverpool. He falls back too often and also veers to the left flank to collect the ball. That reduces his efficacy to a considerable extent, which is evident from his numbers.

Liverpool have another central midfielder in Dominik Szoboszlai, who likes to move forward down the middle often. As a result, Wirtz has to share the central space with him often enough to reduce his own efficiency.

Extra Time Notes

Florian Wirtz Germany success goes on to show the kind of player he is. He is a very talented footballer who can produce moments of magic. However, for Liverpool, he has to play a mundane role more often, and it takes away from his time spent in the final third.

As a result, Florian Wirtz Germany form makes him appear to be a different player from the one he looks like while playing for Liverpool. Unless Wirtz has a chance to play those deft touches and one-twos in the final third, he is not going to make a major difference for Liverpool. He is an entirely different player from Szoboszlai, who is more mobile and more physical.

Wirtz is one of those players who look so much better when his team is dominating the ball and putting a lot of pressure on their opponents. Liverpool do not play the possession-oriented game as efficiently as Manchester City do.

They tried it under Arne Slot last season with undesirable results. As a result, Andoni Iraola will have to rethink his strategy to adjust it slightly for the benefit of Wirtz.
