A Germany win against Serbia in a UEFA Nations League match on Thursday, October 1, was Jurgen Klopp’s first win as the German manager. The 2-0 Germany win against Serbia came after their shock defeat against Greece a few days prior.

Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz scored in the Germany win against Serbia on Thursday. The performance of a few new players stood out in the match. The speed with which the Germans moved the ball around was another good sign.

Germany Win Against Serbia: At Least Three New Players Caught the Eyes

The Germany win against Serbia had at least three young players performing well. Derry Scherhant made his debut for Germany on the day as a left-winger and impressed with his pace down the flank. Scherhant is into his second season at SC Freiburg and has scored nine goals in 56 matches for them so far. He is only 23 and should have a good career ahead of him.

The second guy who impressed was Tom Bischof, the holding midfielder who started alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic. Bischof scored his first senior international goal in his second match for Germany. He also looked good going forward and demonstrated his lethal left foot.

The goal he scored exhibited the power he had on his left foot. Bischof took another shot from distance that missed the goal by a whisker. The 21-year-old midfielder is into his second full season at Bayern Munich and has played in 46 matches for the Bavarians so far. Bischof is almost certain to have a good impact on German football in general.

The third player was Philipp Treu, the right-back who earned his second international cap for Die Mannschaft. The 25-year-old from FC St. Pauli is in his third season in the Bundesliga and has registered more than 100 appearances so far in club football.

Treu’s crossing was immaculate, and he tried to play as an inverted right-back by moving to the middle of the park when Germany had possession.

Extra Time Notes

The Germany win against Serbia must have appeased Klopp, with Florian Wirtz scoring his 12th goal for his country as well. Wirtz’s movement inside the final third was not adequate during the initial 20 minutes or so. However, as the match progressed, he found his groove and combined really well with Serge Gnabry, the right-winger.

Klopp’s rotation policy yielded a positive result on Thursday, as the young players mentioned above made their mark. The Germany win against Serbia thus threw open some good options for the 59-year-old German manager, who had great stints with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool in the past.

Germany have had a few issues in the right-back position, as Joshua Kimmich prefers to play as a defensive midfielder. Treu’s performance should be a good development for them. Bischof’s display should also be a good signing, as it will increase competition with Pavlovic and Nmecha for the spots in the double pivot. Scherhant making his presence felt on the left flank gives Germany another option in the wide areas.

As a result, the Germany win against Serbia had quite a few positives for Die Mannschaft. It remains to be seen whether the four-time world champions are able to keep the momentum going in their next match under Jurgen Klopp.
