Amid Tottenham Hotspurs’ continued poor form and an outcry to replace him, Ange Postecoglou has managed to hit the headlines with his jibe at the reporters while addressing the media at full time.
Tottenham lost 2-0 to fellow London side Fulham in their latest Premier League match.
Spurs are now in the 14th position in the league table with 34 points from 29 matches.
Postecoglou has questioned the authority of the reporters to question his team’s tactics by likening his job to that of a plumber, who, typically gets paid a lot less.
Ange Postecoglou’s Slim Chance of Winning Silverware this Season
Tottenham have been very poor in the domestic competitions, getting knocked out early from FA Cup and EFL Cup as well.
They can still possibly win the Europa League, but the chances remain very slim for them.
The defeat against Fulham pegged the North London club further back in their pursuit of finishing inside the top half of the league table.
The 59-year-old Aussie manager was visibly frustrated with his team’s loss but should be prepared better to handle the media.
His team’s gung-ho approach which has cost them seriously a number of times this season, has come under scathing criticism from the media.
The reporters were justified in calling out Tottenham’s impractical approach to the game, but the manager seems to have done little to rectify it.
Spurs have kept only six clean sheets in their 29 matches so far in the league, which is half as many as Nottingham Forest have.
The regular centre-backs, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have appeared in 17 and 14 matches, respectively, this season, being plagued by injuries.
However, that is still not enough to explain Tottenham’s poor defensive record, as there has not been enough effort on their part to play it safe.
Postecoglou has often decided to play with only a solitary holding midfielder to be more adventurous. Hence, the media has justifiably criticised or questioned his team’s approach to the game.

Focus Should Be on Improving the Team’s Performance
The focus should firmly be on improving Tottenham’s performance as a team and not on getting even with the media.
Spurs will play against Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-final of the Europa League in April. They will also play against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first two Premier League matches next month.
Both of those matches should be relatively easy and Postecoglou’s men should try to collect six points from them.
Their chances of appearing in European competitions next season are almost non-existent at the moment unless they win the Europa League.
Eintracht Frankfurt are in fourth position in the Bundesliga table this season and will not be an easy opposition at all.
Should Tottenham finish in the bottom half of the league and fail to win the Europa League as well, Postecoglou will run a serious risk of losing his job.
Therefore, he should invest all his energy in getting his team out of the hole and have a good last couple of months to end the season on a high.
