Antoine Semenyo Signing Should Boost Manchester City Significantly

The Antoine Semenyo signing has now been finalised by Manchester City. The former AFC Bournemouth winger has joined Pep Guardiola’s team for a deal of £64 million. The Antoine Semenyo signing makes the 26-year-old Ghanaian winger has thus become the first player to join the Manchester club this month.

The Antoine Semenyo signing has resulted from him performing really well for Bournemouth for the last four seasons. As the Cityzens chase Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, the Antoine Semenyo signing might prove to be crucial for them.

Antoine Semenyo Signing Should Add a Vital Dimension to the Manchester City Attack

Man City have often found this season that playing essentially central players like Rayan Cherki as wingers is not always a great idea. Their tendency to play short passes typically takes more time and hence, gives the opposition defence enough time to reorganise themselves.

No team in England, or, maybe in the world, play their passes as accurately and adroitly as Manchester City. However, short-passing football typically takes more time, and it is always good to have another dimension to the attack, which is to burst through on the flanks.

The Cityzens already have an explosive winger in Jeremy Doku. Doku has not played in most of their recent matches, but his inclusion in the starting XI against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, January 7, resulted in Manchester City registering more shots overall and also more shots on target.

With Oscar Bobb playing in only 15 matches so far this season and Savinho scoring only two goals and registering a solitary assist in 23 matches so far, the options for the Cityzens on the right flank are not very encouraging.

Semenyo can be the solution for Guardiola’s team on the right flank. His speed and ability to finish, which have helped him score 32 goals in 110 matches for Bournemouth and also register 10 assists in the last three seasons, should be a great asset for the Manchester-based club.

Premier League Title Race

Man City trail Arsenal by six points after 21 rounds of matches. That is not an insurmountable lead, but a significant one nevertheless. Manchester City have drawn each of their last three matches, which has dented their chances of winning their seventh Premier League title in nine seasons.

The Antoine Semenyo signing might just be the missing piece in the puzzle for Manchester City. Semenyo’s inclusion might increase the number of deliveries to Erling Haaland, who is in superb form this season with 26 goals already.

Semenyo scored in his last match for Bournemouth, and that might augur well for his start at Manchester City. Guardiola will hope that the Ghanaian hits the ground running for his new club, however.

At this point in time, the Cityzens cannot afford to keep losing more points if they are to catch up with Arsenal. It remains to be seen whether the Antoine Semenyo signing helps Manchester City in their pursuit of another domestic title in the English top division football.
