Arsenal Set-Piece Prowess Has Become the Differentiating Factor for Them

Arsenal set-piece prowess again came to the fore on Sunday, March 1, in a Premier League match against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal won the match 2-1, with Jurrien Timber scored the match-winner.

Arsenal set-piece prowess was evident again as the Gunners scored both their goals from corners. In fact, the Chelsea goal also came from a corner in a match that saw Chelsea finish with 10 men after Joao Pedro was shown a red card in the second half. After their 1-0 win at Brighton, the Gunners extended their lead at the top to seven points over Manchester City, who have a match in hand.

Arsenal Set-Piece Prowess Are the Primary Reason for Their Being at the Top of the Table

Arsenal set-piece prowess has been the chief contributor in their success. With Declan Rice delivering the crosses with metronomic perfection and the likes of Gabriel and William Saliba demonstrating their aerial abilities, it has been all too easy for the orth Londoners to score from corners.

Chelsea, however, only have themselves to blame, as they were mot able to stop Timber from scoring the second goal with a header. Timber was definitely not the tallest man on the pitch and still managed to score without much difficulty from a regulation delivery. The Chelsea defenders have to take the blame in this regard, as they had to be better prepared to deal with Arsenal’s corners.

Arsenal have now scored 16 out of their 58 goals in the Premier League this season from corners alone. That means that they have scored almost 30% of their goals from corners only. A lot of times, the Gunners have found it difficult to score goals from open play, but then the corners have come to their rescue.

Arsenal set-piece prowess has thus separated them from the rest so far. It should continue to help the team and might be a crucial factor in their winning the league title ultimately.

Their squad depth has certainly been helping the Gunners, but Arsenal set-piece prowess has come to the fore like never before under Mikel Arteta. There have been free-kick experts in football over the decades, but the way the Gunners have been scoring from corners is really unprecedented.

Arsenal Have an Easy FA Cup Match Coming Up

The Gunners will take on Mansfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup this week. Thereafter, they will take on Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners will take on Everton in the Premier League, making it a busy few weeks for them this month.

Winning multiple titles is definitely a possibility for the Gunners, especially given their easy draw in the Champions League. They are also in the final of EFL Cup, but should continue to find Manchester City standing in their way repeatedly.

The Cityzens will take on the Gunners in the EFL Cup final, and they are also their chief rivals for the Premier League title. It remains to be seen whether the Arsenal set-piece prowess helps them win big titles this season.
