Bayern Munich Injuries: The Bavarians Cruise To UEFA Champions League Win But Injuries Continue To Plague Them

The Bayern Munich injuries have continued to bring negative headlines into what is otherwise a perfect season on the field for the Bavarians up to this point.

Tuesday night’s 6-1 rout of Atalanta away in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League has been like a microcosm of the entire season so far.

Jonas Urbig, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala all left the field injured. At the time of writing, the club have not issued official statements regarding the nature of those injuries; however, they have certainly left a bad taste in Bayern fans’ mouths, despite the historic victory in northern Italy.

Bayern Munich Injuries: Davies And Musiala’s Awful Injury Record

As far as Bayern Munich injuries are concerned, several players in the first-team squad have a history of getting hurt badly and often.

Out of the trio that left the field in pain on Tuesday, Davies and Musiala have a history of injuries.

They have, in fact, both missed much of the season due to awful ailments and the aftershocks that may happen as their bodies recover.

Bayern Munich Injuries: Major Pressure On Players’ Health

This is why it is important to give athletes time until they fully get over the injuries they’ve suffered. Unfortunately, in today’s high-pressure environment, that is not really possible, especially at a club like Bayern, which operates with such a small squad.

The aim is to compete and win in three competitions and do so with the smallest possible payroll. Playing every three days puts a strain on the health of these athletes, and that’s why they are sure to get hurt.

The Bayern Munich injuries are so devastating because there are many players with a history of them, and when one gets hurt, usually many do. In some cases, injuries to players playing the same positions happen around the same time.

Bayern Munich Injuries: Current First-Team Injuries At The Club

Goalkeepers Urbig and Manuel Neuer are hurt now, and so are left-backs Davies and Hiroki Itō. On top of that, even the ever-present Harry Kane has only just recovered from a knock; however, he did not play in the last two matches, including against Atalanta.

Coach Vincent Kompany’s rotation and especially his excellent man-management have served the Bavarians very well this season. He is trying to divide playing time more evenly whenever possible, and that’s why the Bayern Munich injuries are especially frustrating.

Everyone around the team is doing their best to prevent them, yet they still keep occurring. That’s football and team sport more broadly; these things aren’t really calculable.

Bayern Munich Injuries: Wrapping Players In Cotton Wool

The Bavarians currently seem in a position to have one of the greatest seasons in their history.

However, the Bayern Munich injuries could prove to be a major obstacle to that. For now, having several players who needed to spend plenty of time on the sidelines didn’t hurt results.

With that being said, given that they’ll play either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the now almost certain UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, that is sure to change.

The team need to do everything possible to avoid injuries and ensure they have the best possible lineup on the pitch for the biggest matches, but even that guarantees nothing.
