Before departing for the United States on Tuesday, June 10, with the first part of its team, Bayern Munich announced its full 29-player roster for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Due to the fact that some members of the team are still active on international duty for their respective national teams, those players will join their teammates in Florida later this week.
In any case, here is the full Bayern Munich roster for the tournament taking place between June 14 and July:
Goalkeepers: Leon Klanac, Manuel Neuer, Daniel Peretz, Jonas Urbig.
Defence: Adam Aznou, Sacha Boey, Raphaël Guerreiro, Cassiano Kiala, Kim Min-jae, Josip Stanišić, Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano.
Midfield: Tom Bischof, Leon Goretzka, Konrad Laimer, Joshua Kimmich, João Palhinha, Aleksandar Pavlović, David Santos.
Attack: Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, Lennart Karl, Maurice Krattenmacher, Jonah Kusi-Asare, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Leroy Sané.
This Bayern Munich roster includes seven youth team players who are joining the team on this trip.
The rest of the squad are first-team players, the two new signings, Tah and Bischof who have been released by their former sides in time for the tournament.
Bayern Munich’s CWC Aspirations
Coach Vincent Kompany‘s side are in Group C of the Club World Cup, where they are set to face Auckland City FC of New Zealand, the only semi-professional team in this global tournament on June 15 in Cincinnati.
They then travel to Miami to face Boca Juniors of Argentina on June 20, before concluding group play in Charlotte on June 24 against Portuguese giants Benfica.
The Bayern Munich roster is not as deep in terms of overall quality as fans might like, but it is still a good mix of experience and potential.
These players should take the team far into the tournament, though, whether it will be good enough to take them all the way remains to be seen.
This Club World Cup will provide the seven youngsters in particular with an experience to build on in their early careers. Some of them might even get a chance to start in the Bavarians’ opening match.
Yet, there is a lucrative amount of prize money involved, ensuring that everybody will likely take the competition very seriously.
For the top players, it is, of course, not ideal to have to play such a tournament after having completed a long and difficult season.
At the same time, the incredible sums of money that clubs have to spend on salaries these days must come from somewhere, of course.

Bayern Munich Roster Surprises
It was known well ahead of time that some youngsters would have to fill several spots on this roster. That was not a surprise in itself.
The surprise was actually that many candidates for leaving the club have made this squad.
The biggest of them all might well be Leroy Sané, as his contract expires at the end of the month, with seemingly no extension in sight.
There was talk of perhaps having Eric Dier, who is leaving on a free transfer in July, play out the remainder of his contract. But the club opted against it, due to Tah’s arrival, there was also no need for that.
Final Thoughts
This Bayern Munich roster is relatively strong. It gives Kompany the option to change around his lineup according to whatever needs may arise.
At the same time, there is a big gap between the quality of the best players on the team and the rest of the roster.
It will be interesting to see whether or not any of the seven youngsters make a name for themselves in the tournament, though.
