Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Betting Preview

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Match Preview

Bayern Munich hosts Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals, in a European classic that never fails to deliver.

Bayern has had a very tough season, having lost out on the Bundesliga title after an 11-year stranglehold. Besides that, they also failed to win the German Super Cup and DFB Pokal, meaning the Champions League remains their only hope of silverware this season. Otherwise they will have their first trophy-less year since the 2011/12 season. That same season remains the last time the Germans were able to knock out Real Madrid in an unforgettable penalty shoutout with Manuel Neuer saving Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening penalty.

Thomas Tuchel faces some big issues with a long list of injured players. Both Matthijs de Ligt and Konrad Laimer had to be replaced in their 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday and are set to miss the game. Dayot Upamecano, Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry are all doubts for the match, while main man Jamal Musiala has also been discarded by the manager in the press conference.

Real Madrid seems to have already run away with La Liga after their 3-2 win over Barcelona in El Clásico and a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad last Friday. Ancelotti played a heavily rotated side at San Sebastián, giving rest to the whole starting 11 for the Tuesday’s game. Los Blancos will travel to Munich filled with confidence after defeating Manchester City in the quarterfinals to take their place as favourites for the trophy this season.

Real Madrid will only suffer the loss of Dani Carvajal due to suspension for yellow cards and David Alaba and Thibault Courtois who have been injured for most of the season. Outside of that, Ancelotti will have most of his squad to count on for Tuesday’s match.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid to win at 2.75

Two of the biggest teams in Europe have faced each other 26 times in the competition history. La Casa Blanca has a small upper hand with 12 wins over the German’s 11, with just 3 draws between them. In the last three encounters between them, the Spaniards finished on top and went on to win the trophy in the 2013/14, 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons. In every single one of these ties, Real Madrid was victorious on German soil. Therefore it seems they will not have too many issues at the Allianz Arena.

Real Madrid is still undefeated this Champions League season, recording seven wins and three draws. Bayern has suffered just one defeat in their visit to Lazio in the round of 16, but has been very strong at home with four wins and a draw in their five UCL games at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Tips

Both teams to score at 1.57

Not once in their 26 matchups has a Bayern and Real game ended goalless. Real Madrid has scored in every single game this UCL campaign, and average two goals a game away from home.

Bayern only failed to score at home in their group stage 0-0 draw against FC Copenhagen, but also averages two goals a game at home. Therefore action on both sides is guaranteed.
