Chelsea Players International Break: Reece James Leads, Estevao Shines, Marc Cucurella Scores

The first international break of the 2025/26 season has come to an end, and several Chelsea players played important roles for their countries.

From strong performances in Europe to big moments in South America, it was a busy two weeks for the Blues abroad.

Reece James Stands Out for England

Reece James was once again a leader for England. The Chelsea captain started both matches, a 2-0 win over Andorra and a 5-0 victory away at Serbia. He looked solid in defence, winning most of his duels and making sure no opponent got past him. He also set up a goal, showing his influence at both ends of the pitch.

James has now become Thomas Tuchel’s clear first-choice right-back, and his form has Chelsea fans excited about what lies ahead this season.

Estevao Historic Goal for Brazil

In Brazil, 18-year-old Estevao Willian grabbed the headlines with a moment of magic. The winger scored his first senior international goal with an overhead kick against Chile, making him the youngest Brazilian to score in a competitive match since Pele.

It was a goal that made people across the world take notice. Brazilian media praised his creativity and confidence, while Chelsea supporters can be happy knowing the teenager has already made an impact for both club and country.

Joao Pedro Shows Resilience

Joao Pedro also played in that game, though his evening took an unusual turn. He collided with teammate Gabriel Martinelli and was sick on the pitch, but carried on playing and helped create Brazil’s opener.

Despite the scare, he earned praise for his energy and involvement. His ability to stay calm and contribute after such a moment showed real maturity, and he will return to Chelsea with his confidence intact.

Mixed Fortunes for Caicedo

For Moises Caicedo, the international break brought both good and bad news. The Ecuador midfielder missed one match as a precaution but returned against Argentina. Unfortunately, his comeback lasted only 50 minutes as he was sent off for a second yellow card.

Ecuador still managed a surprise 1-0 win, but Caicedo’s red card means he will miss his country’s first game at the 2026 World Cup. It was a frustrating end for a player who will feel he still has much to prove this season.

Cucurella Scores for Spain

Marc Cucurella enjoyed a far more positive experience with Spain. The defender played every minute of their qualifiers, helping his team keep two clean sheets and scoring his first international goal in a 3-0 win over Bulgaria.

Cucurella was involved in both defence and attack, showing the same energy and commitment Chelsea fans have been seeing from him at Stamford Bridge. His performances underline why he is becoming such an important figure for both club and country.

Neto Returns Fit and Ready

Pedro Neto’s break was quieter compared to the others, but no less important. The winger got his international duty done without fuss and, crucially, returns to Chelsea fit and ready.

He has already shown flashes of promise in his early appearances for the Blues this season, and staying injury-free will be key for him as he looks to secure a bigger role.

Chelsea Players International Break: A Global Impact

Overall, Chelsea players made their mark across the world during this international break. James led by example for England, Estevao produced a moment to remember, Joao Pedro showed resilience, Caicedo faced frustration, Cucurella impressed for Spain, and Neto kept himself sharp.

With the break now over, they will all return to Stamford Bridge looking to carry that energy back into the Premier League.
