Chelsea’s Wingers Key to Their Success

Chelsea is going great guns under new manager Enzo Maresca at the moment. The Royal Blues beat Gent 4-2 in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday. This means that they have scored 24 goals in eight matches across all competitions this season, which is a great goal-scoring record.

It is refreshing to see Chelsea flex their attacking muscle in the ongoing season. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson are already proving their worth as the No. 10 and the centre-forward, respectively. However, it is the abundance of wingers that the Blues have got at their disposal is really awe-inspiring. It has also contributed a great deal towards their success.

Chelsea’s Several Wingers Important for Squad

Marseca has been using the squad rotation, especially as far as playing his wingers is concerned. Jadon Sancho, signed from Manchester United, has been primarily playing on the left flank since his signing, with Pedro Neto being used as a back-up. However, it has to be kept in mind that Neto has scored a couple of goals already this season.

Sancho has also played well by combining with Palmer really effectively and also registered a few assists. Then, Chelsea has Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku as options to play on the right. Nkunku can play as the centre-forward as well and has scored a very impressive seven goals in 10 matches this season.

Madueke scored a hat-trick against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last month and has four goals in seven matches already this season. Thus, with the exception of Mykhailo Mudryk, who has yet to score a goal this season in his seven appearances, each of Chelsea’s wingers has contributed significantly towards the club’s success so far.

With the precocious Palmer enjoying his best days in the middle of the park, solid performance from almost the wingers has been propelling Chelsea to success. They are a treat to watch as far as their attacking prowess is concerned.

Moreover, the Blues have been missing star full-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell for quite some time now. Hence, they depend a lot on their wingers to provide width to the team.

Chelsea Has Key Matches in October

Chelsea will face Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Newcastle United in October in Premier League. Both Liverpool and Newcastle are formidable oppositions and Nottingham Forest remains the only team to have beaten Liverpool this season.

Hence, the Blues’ fortunes this season will depend a lot upon those three matches in the current month. Chelsea’s horde of wingers will continue to play a key role in determining their team’s fortunes. The onus will be on Marseca to keep shuffling his resources judiciously. Mudryk should not feel left alone and should be made to feel motivated enough to raise his level of performance. He played reasonably well against Gent though.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea is able to keep up the good work it has started under the tutelage of Marseca. The odds are stacked in favor of them at the moment, if the recent performances are anything to go by.
