Cody Gakpo is on a high for Liverpool this season, having scored a brace in the Reds’ 4-1 win over Ipswich Town last Saturday, January 25, in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old Dutch striker is finally realizing his potential for the Reds after having been signed by them following the 2022 World Cup.
Gakpo has since scored 37 goals in 111 matches for Liverpool – an average of one goal every three games.
That is not an ideal sort of return for a forward at a top club. However, Gakpo has thrived in the ongoing season to make his mark in English football.
A Profilic Season for Cody Gakpo
Gakpo has now scored 14 goals in 32 matches this season, which makes him the second-highest goal-scorer for his club after the redoubtable Mohamed Salah.
He has played both as the left-winger and the centre-forward for the Reds this season and has proved to be an ideal foil for Salah on the right flank.
The Dutchman’s speed and ability to score goals with scorching shots have been assets for Liverpool this season.
With Diogo Jota plagued by injuries and Darwin Núñez not being in very good form, Gakpo and Luis Díaz have started more often for Liverpool.
Gakpo and Díaz have 26 goals between them this season so far, thus ensuring that their team continues to have a steady supply of goals even aside from those scored by Salah.
The Reds have a comfortable lead over Arsenal at the top of the league table and have been the best-performing team in the UEFA Champions League this season as well.
Gakpo must continue his good run for them to make sure that the Reds remain in contention to win the treble.

Critical Fixtures Upcoming for Liverpool
The Reds will play against AFC Bournemouth, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next three Premier League matches before squaring off against Manchester City in the last week of February.
The match against the Cityzens might prove to be a crucial one, with the latter trying to force a win and thereby keeping the pressure on Liverpool in the title race.
The Reds also have matches against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup and against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League within the next couple of weeks.
Both of those matches are pretty important for them, as far as their ambition of winning multiple titles this season is concerned.
Gakpo will continue to be a key member of their team, and he is capable of scoring important goals.
He should be entering his prime as a player now and should now contribute significantly to the team’s cause at this juncture of his career.
There is healthy competition within Liverpool’s team at the moment and hence, Gakpo will have to keep performing well in order to get game time.
Arne Slot, however, will not be complaining and hopes that his forwards keep banging in goals in the upcoming matches as well.
Unless there are some major upsets, the Reds seem destined to win their 20th league title this season.
