An Enzo Fernandez goal helped Chelsea beat Leeds United 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-final yesterday, as the Enzo Fernandez goal took them to their first FA Cup final since 2022.

The Enzo Fernandez goal against Leeds means that Chelsea will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 16. Fernandez has been involved in an off-field controversy, but showed on Sunday that he was one of Chelsea’s most important players.

Enzo Fernandez Goal: The Argentine Midfielder Deployed As The Number 10 With Huge Success

Fernandez played as the number 10 on Sunday, with Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo behind him as the double-pivot, even when Cole Palmer made his entry into the match as a substitute in the second half.

Calum McFarlane, the interim Chelsea manager after Liam Rosenior’s sacking, put faith in the 25-year-old Argentine and was repaid handsomely.

Fernandez has now scored 29 goals in 164 matches for the Blues, with the current season the most productive for him, bringing him 13 goals.

The Enzo Fernandez goal was a result of his venturing forward to meet the cross played by Pedro Neto from the right side of the pitch. Chelsea looked more dangerous whenever the Argentine ventured forward into the final third.

Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto, the wingers who started for the Blues, were very active in the first half and managed to deliver the ball into the penalty box several times from the flanks.

Leeds played with a back-three, and as their wing-backs were not able to fall back to defend in time, it gave the Chelsea wingers some advantage.

Still, the Blues looked more incisive when Fernandez managed to combine with Joao Pedro down the middle. With the solid back-up of Caicedo and Lavia behind him, Fernandez had the license to attack. Even when Palmer came on after the break, Fernandez continued as the number 10, with the former playing on the right flank.

Enzo Fernandez Goal: Uncertainty Around The Midfielder’s Future

Much was made of Fernandez’s recent comments in an interview, stating that he would like to stay in Madrid next season, thus linking him with the Spanish heavyweights, Real Madrid.

Fernandez is in his fourth season at Chelsea and might leave Stamford Bridge this summer if given the chance to transfer.

However, as the Enzo Fernandez goal once again proved on Sunday, he is one of Chelsea’s most pivotal players. Fernandez’s versatility means that he can play in the double-pivot as well as in the position of the number 10.

Fernandez was dropped by Rosenior in a couple of matches following his controversial comments about staying in Madrid while still being a Chelsea player.

However, the Argentine can still keep contributing to the cause of his current club, as he showed on Sunday. Fernandez’s contract with the club runs until 2032, but it is very likely that he will be sold prior to that.

It remains to be seen who gets appointed by Chelsea as their next full-time manager. Irrespective of who that might be, the new manager would like to have Fernandez as one of his key players. It remains to be seen whether the Argentine will remain at the club when the next manager is appointed.
