Everton’s season has been a disaster so far. Ex Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has failed to win over the fans, star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin has barely played, and The Toffees sit just 15th in the table. Lucas Digne has been a star for Everton over the past few seasons but has struggled under Benitez and may join Chelsea in January. Everton’s new signing Vitaliy Mykolenko fills the gap that a Digne departure will leave and at just 22-years-old gives Benitez a prospect to develop.
Everton’s New Signing Mykolenko Will Help Turn Their Season Around
Young But Experienced Mykolenko Ready To ‘Grow‘ At Everton
Mykolenko may be young but he’s played at a higher level than most of The Toffees squad. The Ukraine international was part of their run to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals last summer and has played 9 times in the Champions League for Dynamo Kiev. The left-back won 6 trophies at Dynamo Kiev including one league title last season.
Based on his signing interview, Mykolenko is keen to grow and become a star in the Premier League. He mentions desire and commitment as the most important attributes and sounds like a player fans at Goodison Park will grow to love. The Ukraine international seems excited by the move saying he will ‘grow as a person and as a player’
Everton’s New Signing Mykolenko Could Become One Of The League’s Best
At 22-years-old, Mykolenko has a lot of time to develop as a player. He’s certainly has a skill set that should excite Everton fans. In six years with Dynamo Kiev he played 132 games, scored 7 goals, and registered 20 assists. Mykolenko has shown shines of becoming a useful attacking player and despite being an aggressive player has kept his aggression under control. In 88 league appearances, the left-back has never been sent off.
While Lucas Digne is probably the better player, for now, Everton will be getting a replacement that could grow into a far better player than Digne and who wants to play for the Toffees. Digne is reportedly set to move to Chelsea following Ben Chilwell’s recent injury.
Everton Looking To Bolster Thin Squad
The deal for Vitialy Mykolenko isn’t the end of Everton’s January shopping. According to the Daily Mail, they have been offered the chance to sign ex Liverpool man Phillippe Coutinho as Barcelona look to free up their wage bill. Everton needs more depth in attack and Tottenham Hotspurs Dele Alli is also available.
