Honouring Kingsley Coman: A Bayern Munich Legend

Kingsley Coman has made the switch from Bayern Munich to Al-Nassr.

The French winger has spent 10 years at the Bavarian club, where he has become a legend, albeit perhaps an underrated one. He has played for die Roten 339 times, scoring 72 goals and chipping in 71 assists.

He will be forever remembered at the club for his winning goal in the 2020 UEFA Champions League final against PSG, one of his former clubs.

In his amazing career, Kingsley Coman has won the national league title wherever he went. Whether it was early on with said PSG side, or later with Juventus or Bayern.

The only exception to that rule was, of course, the 2023/24 season, when the Bavarians came in third in the Bundesliga, finishing behind Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.

He certainly has the winning mentality that Al Nassr have been lacking in recent years.

Always a Fighter

When Coman arrived at Bayern in 2015, he was not the first choice, given that Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben were mainstays out on either wing.

Nevertheless, he fought for his place, and once those two club legends in their own right began to age and ultimately leave the club, Kingsley Coman made it his own.

The Frenchman had many injury problems in his Bayern career, especially early on. But he always kept fighting and coming back.

What Kingsley Coman Means to Bayern Munich

It takes a special kind of player to remain in and around the Bayern first team for a full decade. He is being discarded by the club because of their insistence on rejuvenating the side, especially out on the wings.

That is logical and understandable, but from a fan’s perspective, it also hurts that that kind of player has to be moved on.

He has given Bayern fans a lot to cheer about in the last decade. But Coman is still a fantastic player, no doubt. Though even with all that said, it does make sense to let him go now, as Bayern seek to reinvigorate their squad.

That is something that they have failed to do at the right time in the past. The Bavarians have been a giant on the national and international stage since the 1970s. They have often struggled to fully replace the greats in their club history. Especially in the recent past, that has been a problem.

Of those greats, Kingsley Coman is certainly one. Although he doesn’t fully get the credit he deserves, he is still beloved by the Bayern faithful. History will ultimately place him where it has Ribéry, Robben, and many others in recent years.

When someone stays at the club for a decade, constantly performing well and also making himself immortal with the goal that won the team the Champions League for the sixth and so far, final time, he will get his due sooner or later.

That is not to say that Coman is not appreciated yet; he is. Time will make his legacy stronger, though.
