Kieran Trippier could be making a return to the Premier League. Newcastle United have made a formal bid to sign the English full-back from Atletico Madrid.

Kieran Trippier Linked With Premier League Return

Is Trippier an Improvement to Newcastle?

Javier Manquillo is currently Newcastle’s first choice right-back. He has made 24 tackles in the league so far. Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier has only made 11 successful tackles in La Liga this season. However, when it comes to going forward, Trippier is much more effective. Trippier has attempted 33 crosses in La Liga, 26 more than Manquillo. Furthermore, Trippier has made 557 passes, more than twice as many as Manquillo. These numbers clearly show Eddie Howe is looking to play much more attacking football.

Newcastle United have already conceded 42 goals in the league so far this season. That averages to over two goals a game. The Magpies also broke the record for most goals conceded in a calendar year after conceding 80 goals in 2021. Eddie Howe has a tough job ahead of him repairing this leaky defence and he’s hoping Trippier will be the first step to the solution.

Will Trippier Want To Leave Atletico Madrid?

Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has had a successful time at the club. He has received regular call-ups for England and also won the Spanish league last season so you’d understand if he decides to stay in Spain.

“Trippier now has to decide if he wants to leave or not,” said Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. He went on to say that the club “will move on his decision.”

The ball is entirely in Kieran Trippier’s court and it’ll be up to him to decide if he wants to stay with the champions of Spain, or make a move to Newcastle. Newcastle are currently 19th in the Premier League and it could be a risk to join them at 31-years of age.
