Liverpool’s right-wing problem was evident since the start of the summer transfer window. With the departure of Mohamed Salah as a free agent at the end of the 2025/26 season, all eyes were on the Reds’ recruitment team to replace their Egyptian King and to add some much-needed depth to the position.
However, following the end of the summer transfer window, many people believe that Liverpool’s right-wing problem is still there, as the injured Federico Chiesa is the only real right winger at the club. With the start of the Premier League season, Andoni Iraola opted to start with the youngster Rio Ngumoha, but he failed to make the desired impact. Even though the 17-year-old is blessed with fantastic dribbling and skill, Iraola’s system needs something else in the wide areas.
Liverpool are blessed with left wingers. From the established Cody Gakpo to the new big-money signing in Bradley Barcola, the Reds have strength in depth on the left side, and Iraola may need to dip into that position to transition a player onto the right side and sort Liverpool’s right-wing problem.

The Spaniard managed six goals and two assists in the league and added a further strike and three assists in the Copa del Rey to end the campaign with seven goals and five assists.
This strong first season in La Liga, combined with his speed, his willingness to shoot and have a go and his dribbling ability, handed him the chance to go to the 2026 World Cup. He failed to feature in the competition, but he announced himself with his performances for a struggling Osasuna side.
It made Liverpool take a punt on the Spaniard, paying Osasuna his release clause and adding another naturally gifted dribbler into their star-studded squad. Liverpool’s right-wing problem seems to have been sorted by the arrival of Munoz, with his speed, trickery and defensive capabilities seemingly transferred to his new position from his natural position.

Liverpool’s Right-Wing Problem: Will Munoz Be Challenged By Other Wingers?
At this moment in time, Munoz has had a brilliant start to the season with a goal in his first start for the Reds against Nottingham Forest. The Spaniard was then utilised as the first-choice right winger against Ipswich Town, even with new signing Bradley Barcola involved, as he was on the bench.
Liverpool’s right-wing problem might become a right-wing headache for Andoni Iraola, as a drop-off in form for Munoz would without a doubt warrant a change in the starting XI. The Reds are blessed with wingers, with Gakpo, Munoz, Barcola and Ngumoha fit and available to start on either the left or the right.
However, let’s not forget that Liverpool also have Chiesa and Hugo Ekitike who could do the job as wingers; however, the latter has been used as the leading striker for the Reds last season, before an ACL injury in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg curtailed his impressive debut season.
