However, the key Manchester City contract extensions of Phil Foden and Abdukodir Khusanov are seen as huge positives due to the two players being influential key figures in the squad.
In Phil Foden, Enzo Maresca has a creative midfielder who can play out wide or even as a striker, with his dribbling ability, chance creation, and visionary passing a major boost to a side that has moved on from players like Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva in recent times.
In Abdukodir Khusanov, the Italian manager has a no-nonsense defender who combines his tremendous pace with great tackling, fantastic recovery ability, and not being afraid to dribble the ball to progress the team forward.

Phil Foden is the first player in the Manchester City contract extensions, as a new four-year deal sees the Manchester City Academy graduate stay at the club until at least 2030. The 26-year-old has been an integral part of the City squad since his breakthrough in the 2017/18 season and has amassed over 350 club appearances.
The attacking midfielder has experienced a decline in terms of minutes, games started and attacking output as he only managed 23 starts in the Premier League last season, but the well-known ‘Guardiola Roulette’ ensured that no one was safe of a starting spot in the Manchester City team, unless your name is Erling Haaland or Gianluigi Donnarumma.
With that being said, he was still able to score 13 goals and provide eight assists in 54 matches in all competitions; however, it is clear to see that he has struggled with form as the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ has failed to hit the crazy heights that he managed during the 2023/24 season, when he managed 27 goals and 12 assists.
Upon signing his new contract, Foden was delighted to be part of the Manchester City contract extensions and remained at the club:

“Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad and as many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great Club.”
With the likes of Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne not in the picture at City anymore, this could be the time for the 26-year-old to show his magic once more and prove his worth with the Manchester City contract extensions.

Manchester City Contract Extensions: Uzbek Defender Ready To Prove His Talent
The signing of Abdukodir Khusanov in January 2025 raised eyebrows for many fans of Manchester City and football in general. The young centre-back joined the Cityzens midway through the 2024/25 season from Ligue 1 side RC Lens. Known for his pace, tackling and recovery speed, he made nine appearances in the second half of that campaign and looked nervy and unsteady.
However, game by game last season, he formed solid defensive bonds with the backline and created a great centre-back pairing with January transfer window signing Marc Guehi. At Manchester City, they are blessed with quality at the centre-back position with the aforementioned Guehi, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol, just to name a few.
Abdukodir Khusanov, at the age of 22, has plenty of room for growth, development and the chance to feature in the starting XI, especially after a solid season last term. With Enzo Maresca seeing him as a crucial part of the squad, the Uzbekistan international was the second player on the list for the Manchester City contract extensions, as he put pen to paper on a deal keeping him at the club until at least 2031.
After featuring at the 2026 World Cup, Uzbekistan’s first appearance at the tournament, Khusanov has warranted his place in the Manchester City contract extensions and has earned his place as one of the most exciting young defenders at the moment.
Upon his contract renewal, the young defender was over the moon. He said:
