Manchester United endured one of the worst seasons in the club’s history in the 2024/25 season.
They finished 15th in the Premier League, which is by far their worst finish ever. A defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final meant they were unable to win any trophy either.
After the disastrous season they endured, many of their supporters were looking forward to an eventful transfer window this summer. However, as things stand, the Red Devils have not yet been able to make any major breakthroughs in the transfer market.
One Sole Signing
So far, Manchester United have only managed to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the ongoing transfer window.
Cunha had a good 2024/25 season for Wolves, but for the Red Devils, may not be the kind of player who will set the Premier League on fire.
United have been linked with strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Bryan Mbeumo, but those deals have not yet materialised. More importantly, the fate of at least five of their players is still unknown.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrrell Malacia are now training separately from the rest of the squad, which implies that Manchester United probably have other plans for them.
Should the likes of Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho leave, United will have some voids to fill on the left flank. Cunha is the only likely replacement they have managed to sign so far.
United’s stature and clout would have made luring a player like Mbeumo from a club like Brentford quite an easy task in the early days.
However, at the moment, with the club being unable to qualify to play European football next season, the attraction to play for the 20-time English champions is no longer the same.

Manchester United Need To Turn Their Transfer Window Around
United have quite a few non-performing players in their squad at the moment. Ruben Amorim should do well to replace at least a few of them. The likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana have not performed satisfactorily for the last couple of seasons.
However, at the moment, they seem destined to stay at the club for another season.
Amorim arguably should have been sacked after overseeing 13 Premier League defeats with Manchester United last season. What likely spared him, however, was the reality that the club’s standards had already declined, and the fact that he had yet to be given a transfer window to bring in players of his own choosing.
He signed left wing-back Patrick Dorgu last January, who remains crucial in his scheme of things for Amorim, keeping in mind the 3-4-3 formation he makes his team play with.
However, Dorgu and Cunha are unlikely to solve United’s problems, which are deep-rooted and require a major overhaul.
In such a scenario, if United are to save their reputation and continue to be counted among England’s elite. Finishing outside the top six for the third successive season in 2025/26 will not be acceptable to their fans at all.
