Manchester United Resurgence: An African Touch, Fernandes’ Brilliance And United Back To Their Best

The Manchester United resurgence continued under Michael Carrick, as the Englishman delivered the Red Devils’ fourth successive Premier League victory.

Manchester United have now beaten Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur after Ruben Amorim was sacked.

The 2-0 win against Tottenham on Saturday, February 7, at Old Trafford took Carrick’s men up to 44 points, 12 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes scored for the Red Devils, keeping them in fourth place in the league table and only three points off second-placed Manchester City.

Manchester United Resurgence: A Resurgence With Many Factors

It is not a coincidence that the Manchester United resurgence has been so prevalent since the return of Bryan Mbuemo and Amad Diallo from AFCON.

Firstly, Mbuemo was in the right place at the right time as Bruno Fernandes’ cross was met by Kobbie Mainoo, who laid the ball back to the forward as he tucked it into the bottom corner.

That goal put Mbeumo into double figures for United in his debut season, as his impact in the forward line has been constant.

Amad was a constant source of attacks on the right side as he often combined with Mbeumo to create space in the final third.

The second factor that stood out in United’s win was their emphasis on playing one-touch passes, especially after Tottenham were reduced to 10 men for the last hour or so, which was a big change that made their game much slicker.

The one-touch passes gave the Tottenham defence very little time to react, and they frequently buckled under pressure.

After Tottenham were reduced to 10 men, United mostly adopted a 3-1-5-1 formation, with Casemiro playing ahead of a back three and Luke Shaw taking up a more advanced position of the left wing-back.

Mainoo, Casemiro’s partner in the double pivot, was given the license to attack more freely and move the ball around.

Bruno Fernandes often veered to the right side to combine with Amad as Matheus Cunha shuffled between the left flank and the central area of the pitch.

In the second half, United played with their customary back four, and it was a cross from Diogo Dalot that led to their second goal, as Fernandes hit the ball first time to put the victory beyond any doubt.

However, the sceptics will still probably say that the Manchester United resurgence could be extended only because of the fact that the visitors were reduced to 10 men.

Before Cristian Romero’s red card, it would not be an understatement to say that Tottenham were the slightly better team, and United could do little but take shots from distance.

Will The Manchester United Resurgence Last In The Upcoming Matches?

United will play against West Ham United, Everton and Crystal Palace in their next three league matches.

Each of those three matches should be easy enough to continue the Manchester United resurgence.

However, as things stand now, it is very important for Carrick not to allow his wards become complacent.

As a former United player, he should know the importance of sustained excellence. The supporters can only hope that the Manchester United resurgence will continue and the club will have no difficulty in ensuring participation in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
