Manchester United Start Talks To Accelerate On ‘Excellent’ Goalkeeper Signing As Andre Onana Competition

Manchester United had a disappointing start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign as they suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Despite dominating the majority of the game and producing some entertaining football, the Red Devils were undone by some sloppiness from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir that allowed the visitors to score.

The uncertainty and unreliability in the goalkeeper position at the club have forced them to look into strengthening the position, and they’re now working on the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

How Much Will Senne Lammens’ Signing From Royal Antwerp Cost Manchester United?

It’s being reported that Manchester United have now started talks with Royal Antwerp over the signing of Senne Lammens from the club before the end of the 2025 summer transfer window.

The negotiations between the two clubs are now advancing, as the 23-year-old goalkeeper has already given his approval for a possible move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Lammens has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Ruben Amorim’s side and it’s now a case of the Red Devils agreeing on a transfer fee for him. It’s claimed that Manchester United will need to pay a fee of around £17 million for the signing of the Belgian goalkeeper as they look to add more quality to the goalkeeper position.

This does not mean that Andre Onana will be sold, as it’s been claimed that the Cameroonian goalkeeper is still expected to remain as the Manchester United no.1 after Lammens signing and he will be competing with Onana for the goalkeeper spot.

Lammens will need to earn his chance to become the new Manchester United No.1 by outperforming Onana in matches and training consistently to become a regular starter for the Red Devils.

How Does Senne Lammens Compare With Andre Onana?

Senne Lammens has earned his reputation for his impressive performances for Royal Antwerp over the last few years, and he’s been playing for their senior team since 2023.

The 23-year-old made 44 appearances for Royal Antwerp last season, keeping 10 clean sheets in that period, out of which seven came in the Belgian top division.

Lammens has been dubbed an “excellent” shot-stopper for his ability to make clutch saves and frustrate opposition players with his reflexes. The 23-year-old goalkeeper had a pretty solid 81.3% save percentage in the 2024/25 season for his side, as well as a 20.7% clean sheet percentage and 11.2% crosses stopped.

When comparing that with the Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana managed a 68.9% save percentage in the Premier League last season, as well as a 26.5% clean sheet percentage and only 5.5% crosses stopped!

That in itself is proof that Lemmens has the quality to keep Onana on his toes and potentially outperform the Cameroonian goalkeeper at Old Trafford, considering how sharp and precise he is with his important saves.

Lemmens’ possible arrival would probably mean bad news for Altay Bayindir, who is unlikely to get much playing time after that and after failing to impress in the game against Arsenal.

Lemmens has made nine appearances for Belgium’s under-21 side during his career, and he could possibly break into the Belgium national team if he earns a move to Old Trafford and starts impressing for the Red Devils.

Having more variety in the goalkeeper department should help add more reliability in that role and ensure the regular errors are scratched out.
