It’s fair to say that Norwich City have struggled in the Premier League so far this season. Their former manager, Daniel Farke, left the Canaries on just five points after 11 games. In that time they conceded 26 goals whilst only managing to score five. 

Norwich City have been promoted to the Premier League on several occasions over the last decade but always end up getting relegated. The club was determined not to make the same mistakes which is why they decided to sack Damien Farke. On November 15th, they appointed Dean Smith in a hope to avoid relegation. 

Match Overview

On November 20th, Smith managed his first game as Norwich manager. It only took 4 minutes for Che Adams to put Southampton ahead and Smith’s first game was off to a terrible start. However, they weren’t behind for long as Teemu Pukki equalised after just three minutes. Southampton dominated the rest of the half and were unlucky not to be ahead at half time. 

After half time, the Canaries looked a very different team. They were more organised and played with much more confidence. The Canaries came close on many occasions including Pukki’s powerful strike which was saved by Alex McCarthy. Eventually, Norwich City did take the lead after club captain Grant Hanley headed in Gilmour’s corner. Carrow Road erupted as their side took the lead. Dean Smith’s side managed to see out the rest of the game rather comfortably and for the first time this season, Norwich City has won two consecutive games. 

What’s Next For Norwich?

On November 27th, Norwich City will welcome Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers side to Carrow Road. Wolves picked up an impressive 10 points in their last five games and won’t be an easy game for Smith. However, it will be a crucial game for Norwich as they try to escape the relegation zone.
