Attacking options are scarce currently at Real Madrid and those present are not delivering up to the standards.
Real Madrid Current Attacking Options
Their 2019 marquee signing Eden Hazard is yet to start four games in a row for the club while Luka Jovic and Mariano struggle with a lack of minutes.
Brazilian wingers, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo are good but not threatening enough to provide goal scoring options. Marco Asensio has failed to live up to the expectations for the past three seasons now and will maybe be showed the exit door soon. That leaves Zinedine Zidane with only with Karim Benzema as a reliable goalscorer which is not good enough for the biggest club in the world. Florentino Perez may look towards the following options to bolster Madrid’s attack:
Real Madrid Attacking Options to Buy
Kylian Mbappe
The Frenchman is perhaps the closest to coming to Santiago Bernabeu. Since joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, the French superstar has bagged 161 goals and assists in only 138 games. That is quite some numbers for a 21-year-old who has his prime years still to come. He perfectly fits the Real Madrid profile with the ability to play anywhere in the attack. With his fast-dribbling skills, pace and an eye for goal its no wonder Zidane asked the club to sign him last year. Now might be the right time to get the negotiations underway with Kylian Mbappe considering PSG’s desire to keep him by offering a new contract. If Madrid doesn’t step up now then securing the deal might not be possible at all considering he is closest to Ronaldo’s replacement that Real have been trying to find for quite some time now.
Erling Haaland
The latter half of 2019 saw a Norwegian take the world by storm. 19-year-old Erling Braut Haaland bagged 10 goals in the group stages of the Champions League playing for RB Salzburg. Undoubtedly whole Europe ran after his signature, but Haaland chose Borussia Dortmund at a crucial stage in his career. However, to reach the next level, Haaland will look for a new challenge and what better than Real Madrid. Earlier it was suggested that Haaland has a release clause that could not be activated before 2022 however recent reports give a different story stating that the release clause could be paid in 2021 itself. Madrid might well take the advantage of the opportunity and sign the prodigy if Mbappe operation doesn’t go through.
Mohammed Salah
Since coming to Merseyside in 2017, Mohammed Salah has established himself among the world’s best. Golden boots in his first two seasons, a Premier League trophy and a Champions League, it’s fair to say that his move to Liverpool from AS Roma has been nothing short of perfect. Zidane will be keen to add him to the squad as his team lacks a left-footed goalscoring winger. Real have never really gone to the next step when it comes to negotiating with the Egyptian despite showing interest in the past. Salah is in his prime years and the club should look at bringing him to Madrid to make their attack ever more threatening. However, at 28, Salah might not provide his best for a long time and this goes against the Los Blancos’ recent youth policy.
Raheem Sterling
Since finding his best form under Pep Guardiola, Raheem Sterling has always been rumoured to signing for Real Madrid and the players haven’t hidden his desire of going to Spain either. Sterling is only 26 and is amongst the best wingers in the world. Sterling has scored a massive 79 goals for Manchester City over the past three seasons. His stats for England have also improved in recent seasons. Raheem has become a completely different player than what he was four years ago. However, his decision making in the final third is still questionable and his finishing still needs a whole lot of improvement. This might cause doubts in Zidane’s mind if they were to go for the English winger.
