Denis Cheryshev and Co Ends Salah’s Dream With Egypt

Denis Cheryshev and Co Ends Salah’s Dream With Egypt after 3-1 Victory.

Mohamed Salah dream with Egypt came to an abrupt end. After goals from Cheryshev, Dzugba and own goal leads to Egypt elimination before the final game. Russia chances of going through are more likely after the 3-1 win and could secure they round of 16 places if Uruguay wins tomorrow.

Salah Dream Comes to an End

Egypt’s number 11 and Liverpool star-man will feel hard done after failing to make an impact to help his national side. Salah missed the first game due to coming back from injury and in tonight’s game, you could see he was nowhere near his 100%. But the 26-year-old did get his goal after scoring from the penalty spot to give a glimmer of hope for Egypt. Salah and Co can still finish in the top two but would need Saudi Arabia to produce a miracle against Uruguay.

Own Goals first in the Golden Boot Race

The 2018 World Cup has been festive of the goals with VAR helping the hand. Penalties have grabbed the headlines with controversy but own goals have been teams worst nightmare with four before tonight’s game. But Ahmed Fathy was the next victim as his attempted cross was diverted in off his knee from 12-yards-out.  Only two minutes into the second half could not have been a worse time for Egypt, especially after such a poor first 45 minutes.

Denis Cheryshev makes it three in two

Denis Cheryshev was the hero in the opening game for Russia and once again tonight he made it 2-0 to the hosts. It was a good play by Mario Fernandes, right-back, who squared to the 27-year-old as he slammed it home from 12-yards-out. Ten minutes after the opening goal and now seemed a long way back for Egypt as they hope for advancing took a major blow. Cheryshev has become an influential player for Russia after adding one goal to his already two goals.

Two Goals in Three Minutes

One, Two, Three as Russia made the scoreline 3-0 just three minutes after the second goal. As Ahmed Dzyuba sends Egypt packing home with a fantastic finish and build-up play. Dzyuba controls a high ball by into the box with his chest as he takes it past a weak challenge from Egypt defence and place in the bottom right-hand corner. The 29-year-old could have missed the finals but his inclusion has pleased the Russian crowd as he adds to his first goal from Saudi Arabia.
