Samuel Chukwueze’s Form: The Nigerian Winger Showing His Importance For Fulham

Following his assist at the weekend, Samuel Chukwueze’s form appears to be good for Fulham, as the Nigerian winger shows his importance to the side.

The player joined the club in the summer, and, although Samuel Chukwueze’s form has taken time to improve, the player may be showing how pivotal he may now be to Fulham.

Samuel Chukwueze’s Form Since His Summer Arrival

The Nigerian winger had to bide his time to make his first Fulham league appearance, coming off the bench at Villa Park, as Fulham lost 3-1. Since then, he has been limited in his minutes and is yet to start a Premier League match. However, with the upturn in Samuel Chukwueze’s form, this may soon change.

Chukwueze has provided a return of two assists in 103 Premier League minutes, coming away against Bournemouth and at home against Sunderland, respectively. Although he is yet to score, Samuel Chukwueze’s form in play and on the ball has also impressed Fulham fans.

The Fulham winger received plaudits for his assist against Bournemouth, as the Nigerian winger played a perfectly weighted through ball for Ryan Sessegnon to put Fulham 1-0 up against Bournemouth, also swinging in a well-placed cross for Raul Jimenez to do the same against Sunderland.

The former Villarreal winger is renowned for his flair and dynamism, characterised by an eagerness to take on defenders in a front-footed approach.

Having arrived at Fulham around the same time as Shakhtar Donetsk winger Kevin, both were expected to add their flair to Fulham’s game, with Chukwueze having provided more of an attacking output, despite playing fewer minutes than Kevin.

Why Did the Nigerian Winger Leave AC Milan?

Samuel Chukwuezes’s form at AC Milan ensured that the player did not receive as many plaudits as he is currently receiving. Multiple factors were in play that did not favour the player. Therefore, it was sensible that he secured the move.

In previous seasons, AC Milan have often operated with wing-backs and two strikers, ensuring that they played in a narrow fashion, utilising the middle of the pitch, with an emphasis on their strikers. The Nigerian winger often likes to oppose such a play-style, stretching defenders and making use of the flanks.

Furthermore, Serie A is a league which places emphasis on defensive stability and deep-lying defences. For a player who often likes to run in behind and use his pace, the nature of opposition defences also opposed the play style of Chukwueze, leading to a lack of goalscoring contributions.

Although the player’s quality has not often been doubted, he struggled to hit form with AC Milan, leading to a lack of gametime. Thus, a move was sensible. Chukwueze made it clear that he intended to play in the Premier League, and a move to Fulham seemed sensible due to a link-up with his Nigerian countrymen.

Conclusion

It is evident to many that Samuel Chukwueze’s form is slowly improving with Fulham, as is his gametime. Marco Silva is often known for being a manager who slowly incorporates players into a team, and will be noting the speed with which he incorporates Samuel Chukwueze into the fold.

Furthermore, performance standards at Fulham have improved following Alex Iwobi’s move into the number eight position, leaving a vacancy on the wing. Although Harry Wilson’s form has been impressive, many will believe that Chukwueze may be ready to start a Premier League match.

When taking this all into account, it seems that it may only be a matter of time until the Fulham winger has an outing from the start in the Premier League, and Fulham fans will hope he continues to improve his form, prompting the club to sign him on a permanent deal.
