Should Manchester United sign Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane?

Manchester United are in need of a striker. Although they have Wout Weghorst, who has been beneficial to the club, he is more of a rotation-type player. Weghorst is on loan and if Manchester United do not want to make his move permanent they will need to find a striker. The two main rumoured options are Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen or Kane?

Harry Kane

Harry Kane is an option as he has spent a long time with Tottenham Hotspur and has not won any silverware. Kane is very ambitious and if he does not think success with Spurs is feasible, he will look to leave. In fact, Harry Kane was strongly linked with Manchester City a couple of years ago but the move didn’t materialise.

Harry Kane is Premier League proven which is attractive to some clubs. More importantly, he is a great goalscorer. Just recently he became England’s top goalscorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney (Kane also became Tottenham’s top goalscorer earlier this season).

Not only that, but Kane is 29 years old, which might be the right age for United as he is clearly experienced with plenty of football left in him. As he is in the England set-up, he may just fit right into Manchester United as he knows quite a few players.

Harry Kane has a lot to his game. He is good with both feet. He can hold up the ball, head the ball and is quite strong. Furthermore, he can be a poacher in the box or score from range. From a financial standpoint, the move could possibly be cheap as his contract with Tottenham expires in 2024. But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is known to be difficult to negotiate with.

Therefore, United propose a cheap transfer fee if Kane does not sign a new contract with Tottenham. The North London club would be forced to let him go for cheap or leave the following year on a free transfer.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen and Napoli are taking Serie A by storm. They are currently sitting at the top of the table with a 19-point lead over second-place Lazio. They will most likely stroll to the finish line and Osihmen has played a big part in that.

He is currently the top goalscorer in the league with 21 goals in 23 appearances, which is very impressive. Napoli is also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Osihmen has scored four goals in five appearances.

Osimhen offers youth as he is 24 years old and has lots of time to develop into an even greater striker. However, the cost factor cannot be ignored. If Manchester United want to prize him away in the summer, they will have to pay top dollar.

Moreover, it would be more of a gamble because of his price tag and the fact he has not played in the Premier League. But not playing in the Premier League should not be too much of a worry as he has been excellent in France and Italy.

He is certainly a dynamic striker who is quite versatile, and he appears to be a great choice for Manchester United. Although, he would be far harder to acquire given the difficulty of negotiating with Napoli and his age, but not impossible.

The Verdict: Kane over Osimhen

With careful consideration, it seems that Harry Kane would be a safer bet at a cheaper price for Manchester United. Furthermore, he would settle very quickly into the team and can do anything that is expected as a striker.

Manchester United would be able to get a good few years out of him. As for Victor Osimhen, it would be a great move but at a huge price.

However, Kane would be a safer and easier move combined with the fact he would fit in very easily with the Man United squad.
