Pochettino set to sign contract extension
As always, the summer transfer rumours at Spurs have begun early. Whispers of a return to Tottenham for Gareth Bale and an exit for Toby Alderweireld are now gathering momentum. However, there is one deal more likely to happen that every Spurs fan wants to see sealed. Mauricio Pochettino has vowed on multiple occasions this season that he will stay at Tottenham beyond it’s end.
There is no doubt though that Spurs fans will be relieved when he finally puts pen to paper.
The new deal he is expected to sign is more than lucrative. Reports suggest Pochettino is set to be offered £163,000 a week. His salary would rise from £5.5 million to £8.5 million if he signs this deal, subsequently becoming the Premier League’s fourth-highest earner, behind Pep Guardiola, José Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Chairman Levy believes Pochettino is the key to much yearned silverware, completing the look of the epic new stadium rising from the ashes of White Hart Lane. A stadium which will literally and metaphorically cast a different shadow over North London.
This new deal suggests that Levy believes trophies and success are not too far away for his side.
Why Pochettino is the Real deal
Of all the signings that Levy could make this year, this one represents the best business he could do for the team, club, and fans.
Since his appointment in May 2014, Pochettino has transformed the club that he now loves. He has turned a so-called “Spursy” side into one capable of beating the best, leading them to their highest ever Premier League finish and points tally.
Perhaps most importantly to the fans though, he’s re-established Spurs as a force in North London, ending Arsenal’s two decade-long dominance at the top of the North London Table.
As we approach the final run-in of his fourth term at the club, Pochettino looks set to march his soldiers into their third successive Champions League campaign. Though Tottenham bowed out of the proceedings this time out in a narrow loss to Juventus, the performances were of a standard that Spurs fans have long since seen.
This deal also benefits Spurs as they strive to hold on to their star players, amid European interest.
Players such as Kane, Alli, Son and Trippier have all flourished under the tutelage of the former PSG defender. All want to continue improving under their magic mentor, each expressing a desire to win trophies, with no doubt that Pochettino is the one to lead them to glory.

With defender Toby Alderweireld’s future in doubt, they’ve been linked with a £50m move for Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt. Despite the unnerving Alderweireld and Dembele situation, Spurs fans are happy. They’ll undoubtedly rejoice when main man Pochettino leads his squad out for their first game in their new stadium. A new stadium, and possibly, a new era.
German attackers Jann-Fiete Arp and Leonardo Bittencourt are also said to be targets for Daniel Levy. Time will tell whether the N17 squadron are looking for new recruits, and who they will, if any, replace.
