According to the Mirror, Spurs are targeting Jordan Pickford to replace the out-of-contract Hugo Lloris and kickstart Antonio Conte’s rebuild. The Italian may have only taken part in two matches but he is already looking to overhaul his squad and make it unbeatable after a terrible start to Spurs’s season has left them 9th in the Premier League.

Club Captain Lloris Set To Depart
With club captain Hugo Lloris still yet to sign a new deal, it is looking increasingly likely that Tottenham will need a new goalkeeper in the summer. Lloris has been Spurs’s number 1 for nearly 10 years so any change will likely need a transitioning period to work. In his 8 seasons completed so far, Lloris has failed to play 30 league games just once. The Frenchman has played every league game this season, restricting the recently acquired Pierluigi Gollini to just 5 games in the Carabao Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League.
Lloris leaving will be good news for Gollini, who was playing regular Champions League games for Atalanta before moving to Spurs. However, Gollini hasn’t exactly made the most of his brief opportunities this season. He has just a 56% save percentage in the Conference League and was especially poor in the 2-2 draw to Stade Rennais. Spurs may have originally planned for Gollini to be Lloris’ successor but his performances are one of the main reasons why Spurs are targeting Jordan Pickford.
Improvement Is Why Spurs Are Targeting Jordan Pickford
Over the last few years, Jordan Pickford has been known as a very error-prone goalkeeper whose mistakes would often lead to goals for the opposition. However this season, Pickford is yet to make a single error leading to a shot or a goal. Last season, Pickford made two errors leading to goals, and in both the 2019/20 and 2018/19 seasons he made four errors leading to a goal. Pickford also showed his improvement in the summer’s European Championships. He performed brilliantly all tournament and was almost the hero when he saved Jorginho’s penalty in the shootout.
The Euro’s proved Pickford isn’t scared of the big moment. Spurs and Conte need that in a goalkeeper as Liverpool’s Loris Karius proved having a goalkeeper scared of the moment can be fatal for a team’s trophy chances. With little European club competition experience on his CV, Pickford needed the Euros to prove himself to bigger clubs. Pickford’s performances increased Spurs’ interest but it also increased his price tag and Spurs will have to pay an amount probably between 60-80 million to lure The Englishman away from Goodison Park.
