Jan Vertonghen Returns for Spurs as They Host Chelsea

Form

This season has felt weird for every Spurs fans after no signings in the summer and being homeless potentially until February. But that hasn’t stopped the Lilywhites from aiming to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City. Spurs have only lost one in six games but the style of play has been the main talking point. Despite losing 1-0 against reigning champions Manchester City, it was one of their best performance this campaign.

After sacking Antiono Conte in the summer, it has been a breath of fresh air at Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri. The Italian brought back four in defence and has worked wonders so far with Chelsea, one of three sides to be unbeaten so far. The Blues find themselves one point ahead of Spurs after drawing 1-1 with Everton just before the international break.

Team News

Despite Jan Vertoghen returning, Spurs will be without defenders Davinson Sanchez (hamstring) and Kieran Tripper (groin), who hopes to be back by the end of next week. Danny Rose is close to full recovery but Moussa Dembele is still in Qatar getting rehab on his ankle.

Chelsea have no new injury concerns heading into this weekend’s games. Mateo Kovacic was deemed fit to play after suffering a muscle injury during the international break.

My Prediction

It’s been a weird season as a Spurs supporter; despite this being our best start to the Premier League it still feels below average. Chelsea have started this campaign well enough but I don’t feel they have enough to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. Both teams have met at Wembley before but this will feel completely different, with around 50,000 in the stadium. Based on this and the current form from both teams, I feel a 1-1 draw will leave both camps happy as both eye for the top four.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Chelsea
