What Bayern Munich Need For a Memorable Season

The 2025/26 Bundesliga season has gotten off to a flying start for the Bavarians, and they have carried that form largely into their winter break. However, titles are won in late spring, not at the end of the calendar year. In this piece, we will examine what Bayern Munich need to make this term a memorable one.

What Bayern Munich Need in Early 2026: More of the Same, Please

The Bavarian giants have lost just one Champions League game, while drawing two Bundesliga matches and winning all other encounters in all competitions this season.

While there have been a few defensive hiccups from time to time, Bayern have been just about as close to perfection as one could reasonably expect.

In the cup competitions, there will likely be much more difficult opponents waiting for the Bavarians in the second half of the season, particularly in Europe. However, if they continue playing on the same level, with the same seriousness and with the same team spirit, there is no reason why they shouldn’t go far.

Squad Management and Injury Prevention Will Be Key

What Bayern Munich need most of all is for players to stay healthy for the big matches that are to come in the spring. That was the single biggest thing that was lacking last season, when a large group of key players were injured for the UCL quarterfinals against Inter Milan.

Vincent Kompany’s side have learnt that it is vital to have the best players available for such matches. That’s why the coach has been wise to rotate his starting 11 much more, then he had been comfortable doing last term.

Even the players who have been on the bench for most of the key matchups were able to deliver more often than not when called on to do so. That is why the team spirit that Kompany was able to build is so important.

The players support each other, even if they are rivals for the same starting position. That is something that has often been lacking from the Bayern teams of the last 30 years.

These star players have put their egos aside for a cause far greater than themselves. That is a big reason why Bayern have been so successful thus far this season. Kompany needs to ensure that this continues until May.

It is well-known that Bayern players have a history of injuries; this is why it is important to manage their playing time. Those two factors of team spirit and injury prevention go hand in hand.

The Focus on ‘Internal Transfers’ in January Is Correct

The Bavarians have proven that the current squad is strong enough to compete well in all three competitions, of which they are a part. That is why the board see no need for reinforcements in the January transfer market.

They instead point to the three “new signings from within” that are set to strengthen the side in the second half of the season. Namely, the trio that is coming back from long-term injuries like Hiroki Ito, Alphonso Davies, and especially Jamal Musiala.

Apart from all of the above, the luck of the draw in the cup competitions and luck in matches more generally will also determine whether or not Bayern are to have a memorable season.
