Timo Werner has been one of the most talked-about strikers this season. After a constant back and forth over who Werner will sign for next season, it looks as if Werner has decided on his next move.
For a while now it looked as if Werner was heading to Anfield. However, as per Bild, Chelsea is seemingly front runners to sign the twenty-four-year-old.
The Bundesliga talisman will sign a five-year deal, worth around £53 million. Scoring twenty-five goals this season, second to Robert Lewandowski, Werner is one of the hottest strikers in Europe.
What Does Timo Werner Bring to the Club?
First and Foremost: The Events Leading to his Agreement with Chelsea
Frank Lampard has made a real statement of intent with this signing. After securing Hakim Ziyech’s services earlier this year, Werner would be the second signing of the year. Not only is this a message to Chelsea, but it’s a message to the rest of the Premier League that they mean business next season.
According to the Athletic, Lampard had two lengthy phone calls with the German striker over a move to Stamford Bridge. It looked as if Werner welcomed the idea of working for a young squad with high ambitions.
With the potential addition of Werner, it only adds to Chelsea’s attack. Lampard already has; Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Bathshuayi. However, with the potential arrival of Timo Werner, that could spell the end for Bathsuayi.
Does he Improve Chelsea’s Attacking Line?
Werner adds so much to Chelsea’s frontline. The German forward can play as a lone striker, in a two, or can even wide if need be. With electrifying pace and a real eye for goal, Timo Werner has established himself as a real top prospect in recent years.
The problem with Lampard’s team this season is that they fail to kill the game off when the opportunity is there for the taking. Since the departure of Eden Hazard, Chelsea has lacked that drive and intensity in the final third. The potential signing of Timo Werner should bring that flair back into Chelsea’s attack.
A proven goalscorer, Werner will no doubt be the man to get Chelsea twenty-plus goals a season. It doesn’t spell the end for Tammy, as Lampard has faith in his youth and has relied heavily on the young Englishmen this season.
Tammy will be a better player, knowing that Timo Werner will be in the same squad.
Will Timo Werner be Great for Chelsea?
With the signing yet to go through, anything can still happen. However, Chelsea is looking to secure Werner’s services by next week. The signing of Werner will be a real coup, and it will only add to Chelsea’s young and promising attack.
Should the deal go through, Werner will boost Chelsea’s chances of winning the league next season. The future looks bright for Lampard’s young side.
