Willian’s Career at Chelsea Ends

Willian Borges da Silva is a right-winger, that played for the Blues for over seven long years. Willian came from Anzhi Makhachkala to join Chelsea in 2013.

During his illustrious career at Chelsea, he won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup. Willian also made 339 appearances and scored 63 goals for the club.

Willian revealed on social media his end at Chelsea just this Sunday.

Willian’s Career at Chelsea Has Finally Ended

Willian said on social media, “They were seven wonderful years. In August 2013 when I received the offer from Chelsea, I was convinced that this was where I had to play.”

“Today I am certain that it was the best of decisions. There were so many happy times, some sad, there were trophies and it was always very intense.”

Willian proceeds to explain how much Chelsea has helped him grow as a footballer and human being. “… Beyond the trophies, I learnt a lot about myself. I developed a great deal, becoming a better player and a better person. With each training session, with each game, with every minute spent in the dressing room, I was always learning.”

“There was also criticism, which is normal, what is important though is that both the affection and criticism drove me to always give my all in every training session, every game, to be constantly improving until my very last minute in a Chelsea shirt!”

Willian finally thanks the club for his seven years there. “The time has now come to move on. I am certainly going to miss my teammates. I will miss all the staff at the club who’ve always treated me like a son and I will miss the fans.

“I leave with my head held high, safe in the knowledge that I won things here and always did my best in a Chelsea shirt! My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you and God bless you!”

There is no bad blood between him and club as Wilian said he would leave with his “head held high”.

Chelsea’s Policies

It was bound to happen. Willian had claimed that he would sign a new deal with Chelsea without question if it was for three years.

Sadly, Chelsea consistently does not sign players aged 30 or above longer than two years.

Willian to Arsenal?

With Willian’s stay at Chelsea now over, there are many rumour involving where he could go next.

According to Willian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian four other clubs were interested in the Brazilian international. This included Premier League side, Everton.

Arsenal seem like the most likely candidate for Willian’s next club. Many rumours surround this transfer, with most pointing towards Arsenal as Willian’s destination. According to the Standard, Willian is very far into the transfer process with Arsenal, and he is undergoing a medical.

Arsenal’s win against Chelsea in the FA Cup final resulted in the club’s chance to play in the Europa League next season. Arsenal’s opportunity to play in Europe is a big selling point for the Brazilian.
