After Brazil’s late win over Costa Rica, it’s crunch time for Switzerland. The Switzerland side were close to elimination if they lost to Serbia. Xherdan Shaqiri’s late goal now puts Serbia in doubt.

Alexander Mitrovic Puts Serbia Ahead

The Serbian striker fired Fulham back into the Premier League. Now he is faced with the task of leading the line for Serbia in the World Cup. The 23-year-old has led by example with his first goal in the tournament to put Serbia head. Dusan Tadic caused chaos down the right and put in a perfect cross, which found the head of Mitrovic guiding past Yan Summer in the 5th minute. The Newcastle striker has been in the news as he looks set to leave the Teeside and now would of add a few million on to his price tag.

Granit Xhaka Screamer Brings Switzerland Back

Xhaka had come under a lot of custom for his performances at Arsenal. But one thing he is renowned for is his bullet of a strike. Just like 2014, Granit Xhaka scored on the big occasion and what a goal it was. The 2year-old released a wonder of a shot after Shaqiri’s shot was blocked and fell on a plate for the Arsenal man. No keeper was saving it as it drew Switzerland back level in the 52nd minute.

Xherdan Shaqiri Wins it Late

It seemed both teams were playing out for a draw. The result seemed like the best outcome for each side but Xherdan Shaqiri had other ideas. As the Liverpool target scores the defying goal in the final 20 seconds of the game. It was poor defending by Serbia as Shaqiri was left one on one with Tosic. The 26-year-old gathered the ball in his own half to run all the way to Serbia box to coolly slot it past the keeper. Shaqiri was left frustrated after hitting the framework earlier on only to score the winner in the last minute.

Can Serbia Still Go Through?

Tonight result has really put Serbia chances of going through in-doubt. Brazil currently tops the group after they 2-1 victory over Costa Rica earlier today. With Switzerland victory, this means they are second, the same amount of points with Brazil. Can Serbia still go through? Well, the European side will face Brazil next week as a win is a must. Anything less means they would have to hope that Costa Rica beat Switzerland.
