5 forward alternatives to Crouch and Carroll for Chelsea

Chelsea have struggled in front of goal recently with three scoreless draws in January. Antonio Conte has turned to the transfer window to improve their fortunes. Target man strikers, Peter Crouch and Andy Carroll have both been linked to last season’s Premier League champions. Here are five strikers Chelsea could buy to improve their attacking threat.

Oliver Giroud

The Frenchman has always been in and out of the Arsenal squad. At Chelsea he would be a danger in the air, suiting the width the Blues attack with. At 31, Giroud is used to coming off the bench and making an impact and has already scored four times from 14 substitute appearances this season. He has a value of £25m, it would be worth consideration by Chelsea.

Edin Dzeko

Another target man, but with a more mobility and goal scoring resume. The Bosnian was in his prime last time he featured in the Premier League with Manchester City. He managed 72 goals in his five-year spell at the club. Now at Roma, the 6″ 4″ forward is still scoring for fun. 61 goals in 116 appearances in Italy demonstrates Dzeko would make an impact at Chelsea.

Mario Mandzukic

The third 31-year-old on the list, but still an experienced centre-forward. The current Juventus player has a list of impressive clubs that he has scored at, including Bayern Munich, Athletico Madrid, and Wolfsburg. The Croatian has only managed seven goals this season at Juventus, but an offer of £25m would surely prize the Champions League winner to Stamford Bridge.

Bas Dost

A less famous name on the list, but an imposing scoring ratio nonetheless. A career to date that has spanned across the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal, it is the perfect time for Dost to come to England. The 28-year-old has already bagged 58 goals in 69 games at Sporting Lisbon showing the threat the Dutch international holds.

The striker cost Sporting under £11m and even in the inflated transfer market, an offer of £20m could persuade Dost to move clubs for the third time in two years.

Troy Deeney

If the names of Crouch and Carroll have been linked, why not Troy Deeney. The fellow English striker has superior fitness and is injury free. At 6″ he is smaller, but lacks no lesser threat in the air and has impressive hold-up play. The Watford striker has been at the club most of his career and the pull of Chelsea could be too much to reject.
