Aston Villa manager Unai Emery’s quality is becoming apparent with every passing week. Emery guided Aston Villa to a win over Manchester United last weekend, which kept him in third position in the Premier League table with 36 points from 17 matches. They have won 10 league matches in a row now, which is a fantastic record.
The fact that Aston Villa are in contention to win the Premier League title midway through the season is enough to underline Unai Emery’s quality as a manager. The 54-year-old Spaniard has repeatedly proved his worth as a manager in the past.
Aston Villa Manager Unai Emery’s Quality
Unai Emery’s quality as a manager is evident from his wonderful track record. He has won the Europa League thrice with Sevilla and once with Villarreal. He also took Arsenal to yet another Europa League final, but ultimately lost.
In addition to that, he has won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain in the past. He has also made Aston Villa qualify for UEFA Champions League football in the recent past. This season, he looks set for a charge at the Premier League title, competing with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Emery is a hard task-master, and his attention to detail is top-notch, just as almost every top manager’s is. The Aston Villa manager has improved the quality of players like Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans and Matty Cash considerably.

Aston Villa do not have the budget of a Manchester City or Arsenal
Emery managed Arsenal before Mikel Arteta joined the Gunners in 2019. Emery’s stint at the North London club was not very successful, but he has reinvented himself as a manager since. He won the Europa League with Villarreal after leaving Arsenal and has then seen much success at Aston Villa, making a team that was struggling to stay as genuine Premier League title contenders.
It is evident that Villa do not have pockets as deep as those of the elite clubs in England. That is why their recruitment have not been as eye-catching as some of the top clubs in the country. However, with the resources available to them and Unai Emery’s quality as a manager, Aston Villa are making their presence count in an emphatic way in the Premier League.
Villa cannot think of a marquee signing like that of Alexander Isak or Florian Wirtz that comfortably surpassed £100 million in terms of transfer fee, or even that of Viktor Gyokeres, which came close to touching £100 million.
However, playing in the Champions League regularly should increase their revenue, and if they can do so consistently over the next few seasons, they might be in a position to make big signings.
However, it is Emery’s sharp football brain that is probably Villa’s biggest asset at the moment. The Aston Villa manager will take inspiration from Claudio Ranieri winning the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016. However, for that to happen, the performance graph of both Manchester City and Arsenal will have to take a tumble somewhat.
Needless to say, Aston Villa will then have to repeat the kind of performance that they have demonstrated in the first half of the season.
