Chelsea women have taken a major step in strengthening their football leadership by appointing Phil Radley as their new Sporting Director.
The club confirmed Radley’s appointment in an official announcement on Friday, September 27, and he will start his role in March.
Radley joins Chelsea women’s team after a long and successful spell with FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, where he spent more than ten years working in senior football roles.
His experience in football operations and player development is expected to be a major asset for the women’s team.
Radley Set To Shape Chelsea Women’s Long-Term Sporting Strategy
In his new position, Radley will work closely with Head Coach Sonia Bompastor and her technical staff, as well as the club’s broader leadership group. Chelsea say he will play a key part in shaping the long-term sporting strategy for the women’s side.
A key part of Radley’s job will be to drive the club’s sporting vision, making sure that performance, squad planning, and recruitment are all aligned to help Chelsea compete at the highest level.
He will also take responsibility for player contracts and negotiations with agents, which are critical parts of running a top-level football team.
In a statement, Phil Radley said he is “very proud” to be joining Chelsea women.
“This is a team filled with talent and tenacity, that has an incredible record of success and an exciting future,” he added.
“I look forward to working closely with Sonia, the players and the rest of the football staff across the club to play a part in writing the next chapter of this club’s great success story.”

Club Leadership Welcome New Addition
Chelsea‘s football leadership also welcome Phil Radley to the club.
“We’re delighted to welcome Phil to Chelsea FC Women. He brings a wealth of experience and will play an important role in supporting Sonia and her staff and building on the winning culture of the women’s team to help drive them forward to continued success,” said Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who are part of the club’s senior sporting team.
The women’s team have enjoyed strong results in recent years and is viewed as one of the leading sides in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and Europe.
Radley’s arrival marks another development in Chelsea’s ambition to compete consistently in domestic and European competitions, reinforcing the club’s strategy to invest in leadership and infrastructure off the pitch just as much as on it.
