Bayern Munich won the domestic double of the 2025/26 Bundesliga and the German DFB Cup this season, while just falling short in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, in a term that was nearly perfect.
In this ETT article is the 2025/26 Bayern Munich season review.
The 2025/26 Bayern Munich Season Review: Total Domination in the Bundesliga
It was a historic season in the domestic German league for the Bavarians. Not only did they win their 35th German championship, the 34th of which came in the Bundesliga era, but they did so in style. They totalled 28 wins, five draws and one defeat, against state rivals FC Augsburg.
Bayern earned 89 points, (second place, Borussia Dortmund just had 73). They scored 122 goals, smashing their own previous record that went back decades. Meanwhile, the Bavarians only conceded 36 times, averaging just over one goal conceded per Bundesliga match.
This Bayern Munich season review hardly does justice to just how dominant the 2025/26 Bundesliga season has been for the men in red. It is, of course, tempting for critics of the Bundesliga to downplay this success.
There is no doubt that Bayern, of course, have far superior finances than the rest of the league. It is also true that Bayern’s domestic rivals have been decimated on the transfer market last summer, when mostly English Premier League clubs acquired some of their best players.
It is clear that, as a result of the Bundesliga’s 50+1 ownership rule, there isn’t a way for other clubs to close the gap through investments by private owners.
Even so, the Bundesliga still remains a high-quality league, comfortably one of the top five on the European continent. German clubs are still, for the most part, quite competitive in European competitions, with a relatively small club like SC Freiburg even reaching the Europa League final.
Therefore, what Bayern achieved domestically this season, is still a huge success. Given that Bayern too are bound by the 50+1 rule, unlike their European counterparts, it is quite extraordinary that they have reached the top four on the continent this year.
A Strong Run in the Champions League
Any Bayern Munich season review, particularly from outside of Germany, places the majority of its emphasis on how the side did in the Champions League. Bayern began with strong performances in Europe, winning seven of eight league phase ties.
That included wins against Chelsea and PSG. The only time they dropped points in the tournament was in a 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal, thus they finished second to the Gunners.
By virtue of finishing in the top eight, Bayern reached the Round of 16 directly. There, they took on the Italian side Atalanta Bergamo and defeated them 6-1 away and 4-1 at home.
After that, it was time for the real highlight matches. First, they faced Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. They beat the Spanish giants 2-1 away, before knocking them out 4-3 at home, in a game where the Bavarians went behind on the night three times, before surging back to win at the end.
If that match against Real was one for the ages, then what followed in Paris, in the first leg against PSG, was a game of the century. Bayern went behind 5-2 early in the second half, before cutting back that deficit to 5-4.
In the second leg in Munich, PSG scored first early in the match, before largely limiting themselves to counterattacks. The game ended 1-1, and Bayern were eliminated.
The team simply failed to put on display the kind of offensive quality that they had shown in most other matches that term.

Bayern’s First German DFB Cup Title in Six Years
This Bayern Munich season review would not be complete without the story of the side’s German Cup success. While it was decisive, it certainly wasn’t always easy.
In the first round, they failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead over third -tier Wehen Wiesbaden, before winning it 3-2 with a late Harry Kane goal.
In the Second Round, Bayern came from behind to defeat 1. FC Köln 4-1. In the Round of 16, they beat Union Berlin 3-2 in an eventful match. Then, in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, there were each 2-0 wins over RB Leipzig and then Bayer Leverkusen.
In the showpiece itself, Bayern faced a very difficult match against a strong VfB Stuttgart side until Harry Kane scored three goals in the second half to win it for the Bavarians.
Harry Kane: Player of the Season
That brings us to the last portion of this Bayern Munich season review. Kane not only scored an amazing 61 goals in 51 competitive games. He still somehow managed to put his ego aside and fully work for the team.
Given what he does for Bayern, Kane’s true value cannot be quantified.
